  • I rang up Barclays this morning and they said my application has been approved. They told me to take my ID into any branch, speak to a Personal Banker and sign my paperwork in there. They told me that I will get my account number and sort code there and then.

so I went into my local branch. They said they only have Personal Bankers in on Tuesdays. I went into another branch - they told me there's a 90 minute wait to see a PErsonal Banker. I asked to make an appointment with a Personal Banker and was told there's a queue - of 9 people - just to speak to a person who can give me an appointment time. So I went to yet another branch. Waited for 20 minutes, got to see a Personal Banker. She found me on her scree and said the account's been approved and looked at my ID. then she said that since the account's been opened online she cannot complete the opening of it. I will have to get my ID verified and then mail it to the online people. But she can't actually verify my ID right now because her Manager has advised her to simply run me through another application so that she can process me and give me my account details today. I asked if that will involve another credit search and she said 'yes, but that's not going to affect you at all.'

Surely yet another pointless credit search in fact will affect me?

So I didn't run through the application again. The Personal Banker told me my account is already approved by the online people and the online team will tell me what to do next. I called up the New Accounts team and they told me the Personal Banker is talking !!!!!! and is supposed to give me my sort code and account number as soon as she's seen my ID.

I have no idea at all what is going on at this point....
  • What's going on is you're spending too much time and effort chasing around after the !!!!!!ups of people who appear to be consistently screwing you around simply to save yourself having another credit search done.

    Just saying like... ;)

By the way I've checked Experian today and Barclays have not even done a search on Experian. So I don't see how they can have approved the account as they say, without having checked Experian.

I'm in central London. There are branches everywhere. 5 to 7 minute walk from one branch to another.... I guess you guys must live out in the sticks?

I think it's called the Barclays Bank Account or Current Plus or something. It's the one without all that travel insurance stuff. Just a normal current account with cheque book, debit card etc
