Co-Op would be a good'un actually. They won't bother making you go round loads of different branches, they'll just reject you.0

Phoned Barclays customer "services". Here is the gist of the conversation we enjoyed
Thank you very much for calling yes I am going to look into that for you, OK. Yes. I don't think you will have to go for credit scoring no I don't think so. Yes I can see that it has passed the identity oh yes we have confirmed your identity thank you. Everything will be sent to you in due course. Is the account open. I am not really very familiar with these procedures but yes it has now identified you on the system and we are just waiting for it to generate now your sort code and account number which will all be generated to you in due course. I hope I have answered all your questions is there anything else I can help you with this evening?
I'm finding it hard to understand what you're saying, could you slow down a tiny bit, thanks? So the person who told me earlier today that I must take ID into the branch was lying?
Oh no, oh yes I can now tell you that you have already been identified and you are here on my system but it is not really telling me what you need to do now but everything will be sent to you in due course
So is the account open? Have I been credit scored?
I am not really thinking as this is just current account and not loan or so on that i am not really thinking you will really need to be credit scored. I ccan see it looks like it has been approved yes but I am not really up on these account opening things. Yes we have identified you and everything. But it will all be sent out to you in due course but it will take some time. is there anything else I can help you with?
No. Thanks so much for all your help

Blimey, take it they only had intro to english training then by the sounds of that. Is Barclays account opening based in India then?
Hang in there, hopefully it will get sorted soon

Now, was the Personal Banker today correct in telling me that an in-branch advisor cannot deal with a current account that's been approved via an online application? What is the protocol when it comes to opening an account online?
Short answer although I wrote a much longer one: Barclays has two key systems in retail, as there is currently a transition period as we phase out one in favour of the other.
Whilst branch staff should now all be using the new system almost exclusively, the backend for the online applications is built on the old system. As such, branch staff may not be able to carry on existing applications from the old software in the new software. It really depends on what you applied for, as far as I know.
However, I can tell you that we do have "smart" credit scoring to take notice of this sort of situation - you shouldn't be scored more than once in a certain amount of time. It is, for example, possible to go into a branch and get an account, card, overdraft, Personal Reserve and apply for a Barclaycard all on the same credit score. What would William Shatner do?0 -

Most of the online account opening is automated, but some is managed in Leicester. The issue is call centers, where you seem to get a 50/50 chance of whether you go to England or India. We have major call centres in Sunderland, Liverpool, etc. in the UK.What would William Shatner do?0 -
good luck, but remember to watch out for Barclays' so-called "system failures" and any unwarranted charges that appear on your statements.0

Me and Barclays are moving forward now. Things are looking really splendid. Will report back shortly0
