OK, so far I am completely and utterly appalled. Following Barclays Manager's advice I decided to finish the account opening process in teh branch. In order to do that I needed to call customer services and check they've got my application/get some kind of reference number, etc. So far I've been hung up on twice. Since then, for the past hour, the number I need to call - 0500 007 234 - has been permanently engaged. What sort of company is this?!
The problem is I don't want to 'waste' a credit search. So if they've already done it it kind of scuppers me from just nixing this application and going to another bank instead.
But frankly they seem unbelievably shoddy so far. I'm genuinely appalled.0 -

It said they'd use this info to ID me and there'd be no need for additional ID. So, I can just go into my local branch and move things forward?
Also, what do you mean by "ID&V details"?
Thanks
ID&V details would be whatever you supplied - passport number, etc. This can be verified externally without us seeing it physically.oldagetraveller wrote: »A bank with CS reps who are uneducated about their products and procedures plus a "manager" who can't spell would put me off them straight away!
Hey, guess what? I didn't go to primary or secondary school. I went to elementary school and then high school. So aside from being very petty, your post is very ignorant and Anglo-centric.
It's only British people who spell it "licence." But, by all means, please go ahead and pick on my grammar if you want to scrape the bottom of the barrel.moneysavingallday wrote: »The problem is I don't want to 'waste' a credit search. A credit search will likely have been undertaken by this point. Both your customer record and the application should be created all in the same process online. There's no actual human intervention until later on when you send in your signature and so forth. The only way to know for sure, though, is to ask someone in a branch/telephone banking. They should be able to tell you if you're on a 1 (accepted), 2 (declined) or 3 (referred - CIFAS etc.)
Yes, your experience has been unacceptable. It shouldn't have gone this way. Let us know, though - call Customer Relations on 0800 282 390 or write to us - Retail Bank Customer Relations, Barclays Bank, 1 Churchill Place, London, E14 5HP. Not only will you help us fix it, you might get something out of it.What would William Shatner do?0 -

Hi Barclays Manager, thanks for your reply. I had supplied more detail about where I am with regards to this application but unfortunately there is some weird over-zealous gremlin here who deletes posts for no reason, so that information is now gone.
So far Barclays have done the generic check at Equifax but they have not checked my Experian report. I phoned them up last evening and the person I spoke to said I should go into a branch with ID. I asked him if the application has actually been received and he said he didn't know and that I "might" need to do another application.0 -
Don't want to put you off, but their service can be very iffy. A friend of mine cancelled his barclays addition plus account, £14 per month, because he didn't think he was getting value for money. Then, without telling him, they reimposed it. He cancelled it a second time and still they reimposed it. When he brought it to their attention a third time, they took their time refunding him (after admitting it was their fault) and didn't even bother to apologise. Graceless at the very least and, I agree, probably stuffed and staffed by illiterates who give you lip when you contact them to complain .0

Thanks Jonathan. I'm going to call them now and see if I can cancel my application. Perhaps apply to Abbey instead.0

Just rang them up and the account is now open. Interesting.0

What type of account have they opened and what have you got with that?0

Will let you know when I find out Sutton! All I know is that it is apparently a "full" current account0
