Go for it. If you can't get the wireless router working, I presume you can plug your original modem back in to get back online for more help? There's love in this world for everyone. Every rascal and son of a gun.

You should be able to configure the new wireless router via Ethernet as above, while still connected using your USB modem. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
Of course. I didn't think of that. :doh:There's love in this world for everyone. Every rascal and son of a gun.

Espresso,
Her new device appears to be a wireless modem router, not (as she has been describing it) merely a wireless router.
Here are some links about it and some useful pictures of it:

So, she'll be able to junk the USB modem/whatever (unspecified) entirely.
Agreed but while she is trying to configure the new ADSL wireless router, the old USB modem can be left connected to get help on here. Once configured the phone line could be switched to the new router and the USB modem binned.
Looks like the thing comes with an Ethernet patch cable (its described specifically as being yellow) so she won't need to buy one of those, she'll be able to just to plug device into 'phone socket and mains and then connect it to PC with the supplied Ethernet.
Depending on what USB contraption she's been using, if she leaves that connected at the same time it may (if it's got a router built-in) get into a conflict with the new device over which one of them should allocate the IPs.
Not talking about using USB modem and new router on-line together, just configuring the new router using the Ethernet cable before the switch over.
No USB wireless adaptor is required anyway as suggested in post #3. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -

So when you go to 192.168.1.1 , are you seeing a log-in box asking for a user name and/or password? If so, the defaults should be in the router manual. I'm commuting for the next couple of hours. Hopefully, someone else can help between then and now. There's love in this world for everyone. Every rascal and son of a gun.
