  • I would say stay at home also... you also have a family to consider... if it makes you feel better, invite both sides to your house.. ( i do this knowing that they probably wont come and I have not been surprised yet!)
  • My brother has always done a strict rota of one set of family on Christmas Day and the other set on Boxing Day. This can include wider family and visiting as well.

If you have the space why not invite everyone to your place ? That may certainly be easier next year when you have a small baby as well.
We've often done that and family bring food to help out with the cost.

  • Why don't you start off by going to your mum's this Christmas so that they can see their GD's, go to your OH's maybe boxing day or invite them over. Then next Christmas when the new baby is here go to OH's mum then she can see new baby on Christmas day.

That is very very good thinking!! Especially as Jo-R was wondering how to start it off!

I think you should stay at home this year and next year, and have a open door policy~~~~ they can come to you, bring food / drink / whatever and have a large party.

    Enjoy yourself.

Stay at home - visit both sets of outlaws before Christmas. If you try and alternate stays with them you'll make a rod for your back and they'll all beat you with it.
.................:)....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)
  • we stay at home too, that way we aren't favouring anyone. We visit on boxing day, not before. x

You don't want to set any precedents here because whatever is done this year might be expected in future years. We have typically spent Christmas Eve with hubby's family, Christmas day on our own, and headed off to my parents on Boxing day (they live 200+ miles away). Last year we had my parents down for Christmas, because we'd recently moved into a bigger house, on the strict understanding that it wouldn't necessarily happen every year. This year is going to be a bit complicated because I'm due to be induced shortly after Christmas - the plan is for my parents to come down straight after Christmas and look after our boy while I go into hospital. We'll probably be visting hubby's family on Boxing day but don't want to commit ourselves to a meal with them because I'll be huge and potentially about to pop.

Stay in your own home, then go visit them all on boxing day(if you want to)

Tell them they can come for a coffee on Christmas Eve if they want to see the all kids (old and young! :p)

It saves any arguments about who was visited/invited first, it's what we have always done with the exception of inviting the odd single family member over if they were in the country and didn't have other plans.

Christmas Day for non-Christians can be as much fun or as many arguments as we let it be. If you are Christians then celebrate by going to church - it can be really nice on Christmas Day, not always as busy as the midnight service.:D

And I think when he suggested what he did he was thinking of his mum, she brought him and his brother up by herself, he's always lived with her until he moved in with us not long ago, and I think he was just thinking of the easiest way to keep all parents happy.

I have suggested the alternating where we spend Christmas each year - he's not against it at all, we just can't decide how to start it all off so to speak!

I like the idea of doing your parents this year and his mother next so that she can be with her new grandchild but would that mean his mum would be her own this Christmas?
