Right, you've really p****d me off. When I finally get shot of my kids I'm heading north.
I never really beleived the scripts of say Coronation Street ie. houses for £90K, leases and goodwill on a betting shop for £10K and factory girls that have a few drinks and lunch in the pub and are back there again in the evening. Well I beleive it now from all your posts.
I would like to set the records straight re. wages down here. From a few of the posts, you may imagine we all earn £100K+, in reality most earn £30-40K and a great may work 6 days a week.
When I talk about London I mean the suburbs not Central London. Most of us in Essex, Herts, Bucks, Kent etc. if we commute to work have the additional joy of a £2,000 a year season ticket as well.
Unfortunately we are all victims of our childhood and most stay there for life. From all your posts I conclude that there are very few advantages to living in the S of England and it is surely not worth the sacrifices that we have to make.

You could get one of these for £250K and less than 130 Miles from london, in a low crime area with the average wage being over £30K.;)
We dont have a regional dialect either.:D

    Try the Midlands ..
The baby bear portion of the country ..
Neither too hot nor too cold ....Just right.
Maybe not Brum ....But Sunny Shropshire is nice .

    The people are not though.

Lived there for 6 months and the amount of bitter, sour, ignorant people there was unbelievable.

A good way of testing this was the old driving give way test. I was astounded at the amount of people in Shropshire who would not give you the wave of appreciation when you have just moved out of the way to let them through.

Would not reccomend this part of the country at all, the people to put it nicely are ''strange'' ;)

I moved to South West... its better than a West Yorkshire town...

My Home town, has no industry, hardly any technical jobs, high unemployment, lots of council areas, racial tension (riots 4-5 years ago at bradford) and a very low min salary. Houses are cheaper there sure....

But one thing Southernes dont realise is.. once you've paid for your expensive house... your earn so much more than that towns little inhabitant.. so can afford a new car every 2 years... whereas the occupants of that town cannot afford a new car ever!.

My Nans next door neighbour sold her 400k house a couple years ago.. bought the house next door to my nan for 80k.... 320k profit to live off with her pension.... not bad innit!.

Winners are southerners in long run if they clever...
  • The other problem with moving up North is that I don't speak the language... me.
