I looking at idea of places to go on holiday in August 2006 with our kids.

We normally holiday with my mother in law in Devon/Cornwall but in 2004 she moved back up North with us. L:ast year we had a horrible holiday in Cleethorpes in a caravan, weather was bad, few places to go and it was a noisey camp site.

I fancy Wales not sure where but would like a holiday home/lodge than a caravan (less than £500) for a family of 5. 2 adults and 2 teenage kids.

We like a mixture, History, fun (theme parks) etc. I tend to spend all day out and not borthered about camp site entertainment. By the time we get in we are tired with all the travelling.

Any suggestion where to go for a mixture. Thanks

Lots of small sites around the area - no camp site entertainment but friendly, lots of farm cottage type lets as well.
Loads to do - beaches, castles, Oakwood, folly farm etc etc.

    Hope this helps!

    ...or North Wales:

    You can vist beautiful Portmerion

...train to the top of snowdon (real money savers walk!)

    and vist Caernarfon Castle

    etc.

None are cheap, but be aware the first train up snowdon in the mornings are half price (not sure if this is true in summer).

If you want a campsite with entertainment not far from these and a choice of caravans or challets there is always the x bultins site now run by haven holidays. There are many other places to stay though.

Best beach in the world... Barafundle. reached by foot along National Trust land. The NT do some beautiful SC cottages very close by. Think it's called Bosherston which also has lovely lily ponds.

Anywhere in Pembrokeshire is good - it's beautiful.

    Here you go....

If you reconsider Caravanning this place is highly recommended. Loads to do nearby. Dead cheap (~£200/wk for a 6-berth static last August). Nice quiet immediate area but not far from major centres. We had an ace week last year.

    Mike.
  • Come and visit the Gower peninsula, the first area of outstanding natural beauty in the country. Close to Swansea, with its various attractions, many beautiful, Blue Flag beaches, lots of places to eat and drink and enjoy yourself. Have a squint at https://www.gchb.co.uk.

Here dead we lie because we did not choose
To live and shame the land from which we sprung.
Life, to be sure, is nothing much to lose,
But young men think it is,
    And we were young.

  • Try the Haven Greenacres site (North Wales). We go every year and the site is really lovely ,lots for the kids to do plus a ropeworks on site. The surrounding area Snowdon ,is not far and absolutely beautiful ,also loads ofcastles ,portmerion, mountain zoo, and numerous other places to explore.

The National Eisteddfod is held at the beginning of August, this year in Swansea, perhaps you could tie in a visit there? :rudolf:
