Like I said in my original post, if people actually acted soley on what someone has said on the TV then they deserve all they get. Buying a house needs endless preparation and thought.
Strangely I don't think there are many people out there who bought a house just because Kirsty Allsopp said so. Most of you are just jumping on the bandwagon as us Brits do.
Now follow the rest of the sheep, off you go.
1) If someone is on TV encouraging people to make poor financial decisions, that is wrong. Even if everyone ignores them, it is still wrong.
2) What people say on TV has a huge impact on the decisions that most people make. It's why the advertising industry exists. I like to pretend I'm immune to TV ads, and you probably do too. But no one is completely immune - the best ones drill right into your unconscious and do their damage in secret.0 -

My wife would like to know which ones are responsible for the way I am.0 -
BTW, I really like Kirsty Allsopp. I like Phil Spencer too. They made (make) a great presenting couple, interesting chemistry,
Interesting chemistry?!
Their banter is soooo fake it's embarrassing....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -

Kenny 4315, my Worthingtons Creamflo is very moderately alcoholic, and I don't need the affect of booze to find KA attractive. I do take it that you don't however, which is fair enough. What about Beyonce?
To put it in your words I wouldn't mind giving Beyonce some of my KilKenny's CREAMFLO, even without the bear goggles on .......0 -
BTW, I really like Kirsty Allsopp. I like Phil Spencer too. They made (make) a great presenting couple, interesting chemistry, always put on a good show. I think she protests a little too much about how she never gave any bad advice and how she always said that prices could go down, she should just admit she was caught out like everyone else. And she's no financial demigod so of course she was caught out.
The fatc is that she and Spencer made good TV. I still watch those shows when they're on, just like millions of others I'm intrigued buy what they have to say, by the availability of property in other parts of the country.
It's a TV show, it's entertainment. If you want advice and facts then switch over to Bloomberg.
It's all too easy to blame others when in fact the answer lies much closer to home.
Hoorah, common sense prevails.

It is very sad indeed if people made the biggest purchase of their lives based on Location, Location, Location. Buying a Big Mac because it looked nice on TV ok but a house?!? Your going to tell me American Wrestling is real next0 -

And mortgages.
Carol Vorderman made a mint telling people to get mortgages from some hooky bunch offering them at the same rates as most unsecured loans.
And yes, it is very sad indeed.0 -
Imagine two parallel universes:
Universe A
People tune in to Locationx3, Homes under the hammer, Prop ladder etc and see ordinary people making vast amounts of money for little work.
Universe B
No such shows exist.
Which is gonna have the biggest amateur BTL sector? Which is gonna have the greater speculative property bubble? Which is gonna have the most FTBs over-stretching themselves, "in order to get a foot on the ladder"? Which is gonna have the most amateur BTLers entering at the peak of the market and ruining themselves and their families? Which is gonna have the most repossessions?
It's not the only factor responsible for the speculative mania, it's not even a particularly important factor. But it will have had some impact.0
