Well I appreciate that tastes differ - good job really! - but I really don't understand what the idea is of these poor girls starving themselves until you can count their ribs, then having a load of silicone shoved in to replace what nature put there in the first place
I can't be the only one to think that; I can't be!
No DH feels the same. While I obcess about the weight I carry he enjoys the benefit. (He finds the usual eye candy in UK too thin, and not just too thin, but uncurvy, unfeminine).0 -
Although Beeny doesn't receive the opprobrium heaped on Kirstie, I'd maintain that her programme, though 'educative,' is quite exploitative in a different way.
It isn't just a happy accident that Beeny comes across all these nutters who, more often than not, refuse her professional advice. I believe the programme makers go out of their way to find individuals whose personality profile will make them liable to behave like that. After all, the more irrational the actions of the 'developer,' the more viewers feel both superior and involved as the blunders multiply. It all makes for more engaging TV and, until relatively recently, thanks to HPI, few people suffered......except the buyers, of course!0 -
I don't think you're comparing like with like here. I've never heard Sarah Beeney implore anyone to buy anything. And never heard her speculate about house prices and the general economy
Yeah - she's been sensible in terms of not hyping HPI or overstating the 'easy money' effect.
But the programme does exploit the people featured ... as Davesnave says it's amazing how they so often feature people who completely ignore the advice of The Beeny (a successful, professional property developer) and go off on their own with disastrous results.
Like most reality TV it's taking advantage of stupid people for entertainment purposes.
Still, pretty entertaining though--
Every pound less borrowed (to buy a house) is more than two pounds less to repay and more than three pounds less to earn, over the course of a typical mortgage.0 -

Well Jordan has some real issues, she is 29 and as had so much botox her face doesn't move, not a good look. Mariah Carey was on TV a few weeks ago, she's even worse. What is it with this botox stuff, it makes them look like they have even less personality than they already do, which is quite a feat.0 -
I think Beeney woman is far worse. All this nonsense about doing up houses. Most of the people would have been better off taking Kirstie's advice, buying the house. Leaving it empty for two years, doing no work on it at all, and selling it on for a 40% profit. Beeney kept going on about actually doing work to increase value. What for? Much easier to go on holiday for 6 months and make £100k than working your socks off for 6 months, ploughing money in and making £110k after costs.

BTW, I really like Kirsty Allsopp. I like Phil Spencer too. They made (make) a great presenting couple, interesting chemistry, always put on a good show. I think she protests a little too much about how she never gave any bad advice and how she always said that prices could go down, she should just admit she was caught out like everyone else. And she's no financial demigod so of course she was caught out.
The fatc is that she and Spencer made good TV. I still watch those shows when they're on, just like millions of others I'm intrigued buy what they have to say, by the availability of property in other parts of the country.
It's a TV show, it's entertainment. If you want advice and facts then switch over to Bloomberg.
It's all too easy to blame others when in fact the answer lies much closer to home.0 -

It's funny I'm sure I remember a couple of dumb women who had 50k a year jobs that they left to do developments, they made something like 40k on a house in 6 months, (80% of it was HPI and nothing to do with development, before tax as well:D) and they were strutting around like they had won the lotto, drinking champagne etc..., they could have kept their jobs do nothing to the house and been 40k up each after 6 months.:rotfl:
