Don't worry about it Jet, just elbow us out of the way and put your two-penneth in anyway :D
  • I was a lurker on the site but mainly OS before I got round to contributing and I think everyone on OS is very friendly, helpful, and some are very funny(although I dont know whether they mean to be :p ) I have not found any cliques at all. Obviously some people have been around for longer than others, but newbies are made to feel very welcome I think, I know I was.
I think the Arms is a bit scary though, maybe the thing to do is just to butt in? (and then run?) :snow_laug
know sometimes I have been slightly annoyed if someone has made a long post and then someone quotes the whole thing in full to reply to one small comment at the end, but as Queenie says, maybe the person didnt know how to quote and edit, (I don't 'cos I haven't gotten around to/cant be bothered to read the instructions :naughty: )
With regards to abbreviations, I found them relatively easy to work out, (except the JGCT one, thanks Bargain Rzl for clearing that one up ;) ) but I have seen others ask and someone always answers straight away.

Am I right in thinking that 'OP' is the person that started the post??
If so, does it mean 'Opening Poster' or similar?!

Gingham said it was Original Post and you can't really argue with someone in plaits. ;) I thought it was Other Person. But then I'm weird. :D
Don't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia. ;)

    .

I couldn't work out how to quote either so I asked Squeaky and he was so helpful. All you do is delete the bits of the post you don't want, remembering to keep the 'quote' at the beginning and end. :j I can't stop doing it now!
  • Right I'll plunge in and ask what 'amp' is on recipes/ingredients! I can work most things out but for some reason that always throws me!

If you mean "&amp" (I hope this comes out right when posted!) it's when somebody's used an ampersand ("&" without the quotation marks) - the site doesn't like it because it detects it as HTML code.

    Hi, everyone :)

We have a Welcome to Old Style sticky at the top of the forum and in that (buried among a host of other useful pointers) is a link to a list of all the more common acronyms in use in Old Style.

Even so it can get a little confusing so do by all means feel free to ask :)

Anyway, I hope you all will join us and settle in quickly - MSE members are a great bunch, and I must admit I've found my virtual home here on Old Style which is why I spend so much time idling about the place :)

    Have fun :D
