I don't think we're that cliquey really. It's just that the more regular posters are in effect the 'natter-bags' who would be gossiping over the garden fence. We are always welcoming new members with open arms, ever grateful for new input and ideas etc.

Now - surely a clique would be a lot harder, nigh impossible to 'break into'?

I have deleted my earlier posts and apologise if they have caused any upset or offense to the OP or in any way embarrased other old Stylers.

Natterbags!! Love it, that is definately us! Id love to talk over a fence like in the good old days (not that I remember them, or have a fence *looks out of first floor flat window all misty-eyed at the thought of it*).

We arent cliquey though, I remember when I joined about 8 months ago, o/s was one of the first boards I posted on because it seemed freindly and chatty, and would often not leave O/S because some boards are a bit more scary to me! (Im terrified of them in the Arms - boozehounds, the lot of them!!)

I'm by no means a regular poster on the old style forums but I have never found it (or any of the other forums) cliquey.
Everyone on here is so nice and helpful..... even when I may ask some stupid questions!!

I'm still trying to work out what some abbreviations mean...... only worked out what IMHO meant about 2 days ago!!

Oh and the D in DD, DS,DW or DH can sometimes stand for 'dastardly' depending on the mood of the person describing them!!

    Hi

It would be nice if some of the abbreviations could be explained in one hit. i.e. what is JGCT( Ihave guessed three out of 4 but again there is JPMST!

While it is very heartwarming to read that the people posting on this thread *haven't* found OS 'cliquey' or are happy to unravel the mysteries of the abbreviations in their own time or don't find long quotes off putting ...

... the OP has raised (and voiced) valid points!

Which begs the question: How many other *newbies* have been put off by those same factors? We'll never really know if they haven't stuck around ;) and unless people such as the OP take the time to tell us, we may *never* have known.

Thanks to the OP for opening up this discussion. :T :T :T

Of course it is cliquey, the regulars are the clique and all others are just seeking advice. 1a_y_grin.gif

By the way, I'm guessing that JGCT = January Grocery Challenge Total and JPMST = January Pin Money Savings Total.

Do I win a prize? Or did I get the T wrong? :D

Speaking from personal experience I never found OS cliquey - but I can see how any group of people who know each other (even "virtually") can seem that way to a newcomer until they're "in". The thing about Old Style is that the only pre-requisites for getting "in" are a friendly attitude and a willingness to listen to the rest of us rattling on about our not terribly exciting lives, or moaning about our jobs and/or partners, amidst all the other useful discussion about all things OS!

Just turn up when you feel like it, and read/contribute a few posts - don't be afraid to ask questions, everybody's friendly here! There are a few people on the MSE forums who are known for stirring/being judgemental of other people's problems. None of those people are Old Style regulars.

I can see what the OP means though, because at some point (this is a while ago) I remember someone asking a question about Fast Food and they were told "this is O_S what is Fast Food?" basically. HOWEVER knowing more people and chatting more it becomes quite clear that it was meant as a joke - maybe a "newbie" doesn't know that though. So, Fair Point O-P! Anyway, off I go again.... :hello:
