Help for`newbies`

Hi

It would be nice if some of the abbreviations could be explained in one hit. i.e. what is JGCT( Ihave guessed three out of 4 but again there is JPMST!

I have searched all over the site but there is pockets of advice for ` signatures` which comes up but it isnt easy to find...........

Also could I politely ask if people could not repeat ALL their post when making a reply. It`s really difficult to read a very helpful forum on slow cookers when all the posts are repeated AGAIN and AGAIN.

Sorry if this sounds grumpy and yes I have read all the stickies but it takes forever!

It does strike me as tho this is becoming a bit`cliquey`!

    I agree with the site being supportive and I have added myself when possible but there is a lot of over quoting which hinders the whole process!

    I've been here a smidgen longer than MATH and even I confess to finding some of the abbreviations confusing (at times) ;)

    May I just ask - is it only on the OS (Old Style) forum that you are referring to, or generally across the boards?

    Regarding the slow cooker thread, if there is something you especially want to look up, have you searched the Mega Index and the Recipe Index to see if the answer to your query has been placed under a heading there? That may eliminate the need to read the whole thread and all the quotes, perhaps?

    But yes, I can see your point about over quoting and perhaps it is something which other posters may take on board. Unfortunately, it's down to the individuals when they quote just how much or how little they incorporate. :confused:

    Thank you Queenie- that was a kinder response than being told to`chill`! I do find there is a lot of repetition across the board by over quoting but I guess this is a very
    individual opinion!

    I only recently joined MSE and the advice and support from the Ladies & Gentlemen old Stylers has changed my families life for the better. Everyone is welcomed, old or new and I have never found it to be in any way ' Cliquey '.

    Don't knock it till you've tried it friend. You are welcome anytime.

    Hi Jan,

    I do kind of know what you mean about the over-quoting, I think it may be down to some people not knowing how to 'edit' someone else's quote to just leave the relevant bit. Lord knows it took me a while how to use the quote facility at all but then I'm not the cleverest one with computers!

    People on this board really are so friendly, if it does seem 'cliquey' to you I promise that if you start posting and contributing you will be made very welcome, it is not an exclusive club by any means.

    Welcome to old style and look forward to seeing more of your posts.

    I don't know all the abbreviations, like the others have said just ask if you're not sure, a lot of them you can figure out quite quickly anyway.

    I'm delighted to read that is your experience, Icemaiden :D

    The OP hasn't experienced that (and even I have found that sometimes it can feel a little "cliquey" here); it's all a matter of the individual's experience and perception.

    I hope the OP goes one to share the positive benefits of our OS community but it would be a pity if the pertinent points raised were overshadowed by that one aspect alone, surely?

    Over quoting was one issue.
    Abbreviations were another.

    Even *I* don't know the abbreviations she's quoted!! LOL

    I've been an internet user for quite a number of years and all my "net" life DW has always meant Dear Wife ... on here, it's come to mean Dish Washer! So I can empathise with any and all confusions over abbreviations ;)

    Perhaps someone could share the secret behind the abbreviations in the OP because I'm curious now too :D:D:D

    TIA <
    Thanks In Advance :D

    BTW - what does JGCT mean?

    All I could find was the Japanese Gospel Church of Toronto, some post-menopausal probs or Indian arrow heads :confused::D

    A few quick ones:

    DS = Darling Son
    DD = Darling Daughter
    DW = Darling Wife (or dish washer...depending on context of course!)
    DH = Darling Husband
    ......in the above Darling could be substituted with Dear

    MIL/FIL = Mother/Father in Law
    TD = tumble drier
    SC = slow cooker
    PMSL = P!ssed myself laughing
    LMAO = Laughed my a$$ off
    LMFAO = same as before...ya can work out what the F stands for I'm sure!
    ROTFLMFAO = Rolled on the floor lauging my flipping a$$ off (or something like that)
    IYKWIM = If you know what I mean
    IMO = In my opinion

    It took me a very long time to work out and remember these, and I know I've missed loads as I can't think of them. BTW (by the way) I don't know what the ones you quoted mean!

    Sorry if you found it a bit cliquey here. It's not meant to be that way at all - we were all new at one time..

    HTH = Hope that helps
