Greetings all
Ive finally found this forum and what a godsend it is. I only found it at the end of last year....2005 and niw its has finnaly given me the kid up the backside i needed. Although my debts arent large up to some ive seen (£9,300) it had gotten to the point where i didnt want to face them and was putting my head in the sand and doing stuff like not even wanting to check the balance on my current account but still going to the cashpoint and trying to take money out whilst saying a quick prayer.
Today i finnaly took the bull by the hiorns and checked my account online while not good ( almost £1000 overdrawn) it was better than i had thought.
i appologise in advance if some of the things i ask may be obvious to others, but this is new to me. ie the feeeling that i can and want to clear my debts and start saving

Well done Deleted_User for starting this thread! :T
Hope you don't mind but I would like to add this thread for a guide and template for all newbies.0 -
While I'm not a newbie as I've been reading the DFW board for a while, I would like to post too. I've been unable to make headway into my debt as have only been working temporary part time and my contract has now finished, so I'm unemployed. I've already cancelled a £40 yearly magazine subscription as I only ever read each mag once and then put them away in a box.
Once I'm back in full time permanent work (the sooner the better), I'm going to:
Work out a budget (including monthly amounts towards car insurance, christmas gifts and a rainy day fund - for unforeseen expenses.)
Transfer my credit card debt (£2400) onto a 0% card and pay more than the minimum payment every month.
Save towards the wedding, we're hoping to get married summer 2007, but really don't want any more debt. So, if we don't save enough, the wedding will have to slide to 2008... but I kind of had my heart set on '07! Anything I raise from selling items on Ebay will go into the wedding fund.
I know I should be paying the debt off first, before saving - but we really want to get married, so paying the card off isn't top priority (will just keep chipping away at it and transferring to 0% cards!)0 -
Re buying magazines/papers etc
This always amazes me when all the same gossip can be found on the internet for free (ie the bbc website)
Plus your saving the environment
maybe a thread with all the good places to find all this would be useful0 -
I am going to continue budgeting I have 3 purses in my handbag 1 for travel money, 1 for food budget, and 1 for a weekly allowance that I account for at the start of the month. It's a bit sad but I find I dont over spend as I can only spend what I have. I have a credit card with a low limit if I need it and pay the balance off each month. I think that in 2006 I will be working as much as I can in my 2 jobs. If I'm working I won't be spending! debt at highest 18,000 march/april 2005
debt now 15,200
debt free sept 2008£1 a day Christmas 2023 #190 -
Start dealing with money troubles instead of burying my head in the sand and thinking that its all someone elses fault. Try and talk to my partner about our massive debt calmly and get some help so that we can deal with it without argueing.0

My aims for 2006:
- Don't use Credit cards anymore, one of them is from Monument and the interest is such a waste of money. I have been sent out new ones, but they are still attached to the paper they arrived on.
- Keep saving some money every month, so if emergencies arise I'm not tempted to use the cards.
- Try and cut back on food shopping.
- Try and get my partner to be more involved in the house finances, I look after it all, and he keeps wondering where all the money has went!
- Resist the offers of more credit from card companies and the bank. (Most recent was the bank offering me a £1,600 overdraft..... )
And hopefully I will have a lot less debt by this time next year.
And can I just say....I think this is a great site and has motivated me so much to try and sort things out. So my last aim is to keep visiting. :jCross Stitch Cafe member No. 32012 170-194 2013 195-207.Hello Kitty ballerina 208.AVA 209.OLIVIA 210.ELLA 211.CARLA 212.LOUISE 213.CHARLEY 214.Mother & Child 215.Stop Faffing Completed 2014 216.Stitchers Sampler. 217.Let Them Be Small 218.Keep Calm 219. My aim is to pay off as much as possible this year of a £1,720 overdraft.
This to be achieved by spending less money on my shopping and on such things as books, etc.
I live in hope, rather than expectation, but we shall see ...Egg Loan: £5,942.43
Lloyds-TSB Overdraft: [STRIKE]£700[/STRIKE] 424.65
Student Loan: ≈ £5,000 (can't find paperwork to check)0 -
My aim to get rid of 10k of my 25k debt by the end of the year some how. I'll be using ebay, a PI claim and part time work to clear it, but I hope to manage it0
