    Great thread Deleted_User :)

....my New Year Debt resolution is to stick to a budget when I set myself one! I always say, ok this month I will spend such an amount and then I overspend! I also need to stop fantasizing that I will win a large amount of money that will clear all my debts  2005 was a wake up call when I had a hard look at my finances :(, 2006 will be a year to remember when I see my debt decrease;)

  • I have made it my new year's resolution to clear all of my debt.
I have been in debt ever since leaving university and a series of difficult circumstances and badly paid jobs thereafter made the situation worse.
I made it my new years resolution to clear all my remaining debts last year but (mainly because of a move) my debts were reduced but not cleared.
Hopefully this year I will say goodbye to the debt I have had all my adult life so far.

We declared ourselves bankrupt last year as things where just getting on top of us and we where going nowhere fast. As last year fell away and the New year arrived we made the following resolutions

    - stick to monthly food/petrol budget (with great ideas on OS board)
    - cut back on alcohol and takeaways (we had been using alcohol as a crutch)
    - try to save at least £150 per month as we have no savings whatsoever
    - lose weight through proper eating and exercise

Bankruptcy was not the easy option but at the end of the day was the right way for us........the relief at midnight that 2005 had gone was immense

This year I hope to clear more of my debts. They are nearly all now on 0% cards. I'm also going to try and build some savings as well. Also going to stop buying things from ebay that I never use and stop using the excuse that I deserve a treat!

    Happy New Year everyone.....

About 2-3 weeks ago, my other half and i pulled our heads from the sand, to see a large debt mountain, that had not gone away

So this year we have resolved to do a budget, stick with it, and stop hiding from things.

At the moment, i am waiting for my contract mobile phone to be transferred to pay as you go (my contract runs out 17th Jan 2006 :j )

We are also waiting for some shuffled funds to clear on a credit card, so that we can shuffle the next chunk to a lower rate.

We hope to post our budget soon to get all you lovely people to spot where we can cut back further, but would like to have shuffled a few cards first to make it a bit easier.

    Good luck everyone...... :grouphug:
    What's he building in there???
Debt at highest £30,450 (Dec 05)
    Debt at lowest £9, 113 (Jul 07)
How much did we over spend whilst on maternity leave
  • Carry on working on clearing debts. Want to give up alcohol cos I hate wasting money on it and it makes me feel rubbish and want to stop spending money on stupid magazines that I am addicted to all just for the latest celebrity gossip, sill hey!

    Gonna be a good one : )
Loan & Credit Card Debt at Highest: 13,450.04
Loan & Credit Card Debt Deb 05: 12,420.40
Loan & CC Debt Free Date: OCTOBER 2007
    Student Loan: 10,000.00

Make 2006 a year for clearing debt xx
  • Finally facing up to the huge debt I've got myself in. So now it's time to start clearing it. As an aside, am trying to stop smoking in order to save myself a bit more cash... It's been 1 day so far though, so I won't get too excited yet.
PROUD TO HAVE DEALT WITH MY DEBTS
  • You will all find lots of support here. There are no magic solutions - but a problem shared, especially here - is a problem more than halved. No question is too daft.

The only thing daft is not facing up to things.

    Good luck for 2006.
  • I think 2006 will be a good year for me.

Im returning to work full time so hopefully will have some extra cash to throw at my credit cards.

I've already started changing things which is saving me money, still a few more things to organise so once i have i should have at least an extra £100 per month from these ( cancelling direct debits for things i dont need or use!)

Reduce my shopping bill and actually thinking about what im buying rather than throwing what i like into the trolley, paying for it all my credit card and then throwing half the stuff away because i dont eat it and it's gone out of date.

My first goal is to get my debt under 20K.

    Good luck everyone,
