  • Do you really, really need a new car? Is it possible to hand it back at all and buy a cheap run around for now?
It might be worth splitting the money up for rent, electric ,council tax ,etc up as someone might be able to spot how you can shave that amount even further.
Presents and entertainment could be reduced a bit.
Also do you not have contents insurance or anything like that at all?
Perhaps it is worth starting an account for holidays and putting a set amount in each month - I appreciate you won't pay your debts off as fast but otherwise you may find you've done well clearing your debts off and then throw the holiday on a credit card and get back in debt. Maybe set a realistic figure and save that amount each month - then when the time comes - that's how much you have to spend on it.
Have you tried a spending dairy to see there is no other money disappearing as you are quite close to your incomings and outgoings balancing and it would be easy to spend 7 pounds or more in a month and be going backwards not forwards.
The easiest and biggest saving though is obviously that car - am not sure but aren't there certain points you can hand it back?

  • Oh might as well put your claim in for bank charges and get it in the system so it will be there if there is any announcement or anything.

    Hi!

And thank you!! :T Yours and CautiousPauls diaries made me want to do my own!

Just realised I may need to deduct my OD interest from the £40 I thought I had for the week. That will put me down to £30......

...... sorry, just realised I put £15 diesel in my car this morning and I don't think its shown on my statement yet.

So thats a grand total of £15 for the next 6 days!

Hmmmm? (its the anger thats going to get me through this!)

Oh and its worse - forgot about my mobile bill at £22, but had already included the OD interest... nett spends for the next 6 days £5.00

    Thanx DF!:D

I have put in for my bank charges! £2239 in total. Have since come to the conclusion that they are the most difficult people to get reclaims out of - but will keep going!! I am using the hardship clause from the FSA, but not sure if they are going to wear it? I can but perserveer! Getting the charges back would solve an awful lot of my situation.

    Hi DF!

There is a story behind the car. I did have a petrol car that was costing me vast amounts of money in petrol and road tax (was due to go up to £260 next year!) So I decided to get a new car. It is diesel, I have almost halved my fuel cost each month, my road tax is now only £35 a year and I have got my insurance down to the same as last year (no lower for love nor money!) I like the security of a new car - as you can see I have nothing set aside for if things go wrong - and if something goes wrong with a new car, I can just hand it back and get them to fix it. I will only have 1 service in 2 years and no MOT. I know its not great, but it is a little better than where I was.
I will look at the lump sum for the house - cheers!

My OH pays the contents insurance (for some odd reason) and buildings insurance is covered by the landlord.

I've only been on here a few months and its already changed my life for the better. I never thought I would say this but I HATE spending money now!!

I haven't used a credit card for 3 months now. I won't pretend its easy because it isn't. Am so proud now to be dealing with my debts.

Keep reading the posts on here - its what keeps me going.

    Good luck.
