I did actually start with the whole trading standards thing but found it very hard to even work out where to start on their website. They don't make it easy for you to report people.

To be frank, I find Trading Standards to be, in the majority, rubbish.

But this agency is based in Derbyshire, as far as I can make out, whereas I'm in London. I'm not sure my local council would care.

    Hi Sarahs999,

I have an online service provided by Barclays that lets me see credit info on companies, and their history etc

I found this info for JACK RUSSELL COLLECTIONS AGENCY LTD:

Address: Jack Russell Collections Agency Ltd
    REGENCY HOUSE, 3 Albion Place
    Northampton
    NN1 1UD

    Payment History: Bad
MAR-2006 County Court Judgment (CCJ) AUG-2004 County Court Judgment (CCJ)

    Lending Risk: VERY HIGH RISK

So they have been into court before for not paying their bills, in 2004 and 2006.
The software I use, called CreditFocus, is telling me that I should not lend money to them due to them being classed as 'very high' risk

So that sums the company up in a nutshell!
  • I would just write them a letter, and copy the OFT in too, I wonder if there are any other regulating bodys that need to be made aware?

    An update.

This morning Jack Russell finally paid the money that they owed us, three years late. It's all thanks to this thread - if it hadn't become so popular in the Google search results we'd still be waiting.

They asked me to write a 'clarification' on this thread. In fact, one of the emails they sent me said, 'We will pay you the money on the basis that you write the clarification'. Erm, no, I think you'll pay me the money on the basis that it belongs to me and you have held on to it for the last three years. They're bloody lucky I haven't charged them interest.

I'll just put some facts down here and anyone reading this thread can come to their own conclusion.

We engaged Jack Russell to collect money owed to us by clients in 2007.
The debts totalled £5k; JR collected just under £500.
They charged 20% as their fee.
We asked repeatedly for a written contract; they declined to provide us one.

From the beginning they phoned us constantly to ask for the details of our debtors. As soon as we sent them it all went quiet. When we phoned them to ask how the collecting was going and when we could expect our money, we were told that they would only transfer the money to us when they had a certain amount, or after a few months, or that they had sent us a cheque (which never appeared). These are just three of the things we were told; there were many more.

After a year of chasing them and receiving no money, I asked them to archive everything, stop working and send us the final cheque. We received nothing.

In fact the only written communication we received from them was a letter asking for us to pay costs to take one of our largest debtors to court. We declined to send them any money on the basis that they were supposed to be collecting money for us, not finding ways to charge us more.

It is interesting that this is the only piece of mail sent by them to ever reach us, despite their claim that they sent the cheque to us, and that it was returned to them, and that they also sent a letter to us in October last year (after this thread came to their attention), which was also returned. We have never changed address, and have never had a problem with any other post going missing.

Jack Russell claim that this whole thing was down to an accounting error.
So, if you've suffered an 'accounting error' with them too, here's the email to contact:

    julie@debtcollect.co.uk

    Good luck!

Thanks Jack. I noticed your earlier comment was removed from this thread, was that at your request? Or was it MSE? Spinnache's was taken off too.

My DH adn I ran a small magazine business in our spare time; it was very successful but we sold it as we didn't have time for it in the end. There were a load of outstanding debts that we couldn't round up, so we employed Jack Russell debt agency to get them for us.

Over a year later, and we have yet to recieve any payments from them. I know they only managed to get £500 out of the £5k we were owed, but they won't even pass that on. I must have called, written, emailed, pestered, 40 or 50 times, and no response. So I've given up in the end. It makes me furious as we are now scraping to get by and even a couple of hundred would help us. So AVOID them!

In future we must make sure we capture any posts.Hi there Jack Russell.

Whats it like to have MSE snapping at your ankles?
