IIRC we were told that as the price of Gas is linked to the price of oil hence the big price increases, now the price of oil has fallen we are getting silence.0

Yes, the energy companies have been caught with their trousers round their ankles with this one, haven't they? There's no way they could have seen what was going to happen to oil prices at the end of July, in fact I would imagine they assumed they would continue rising from the $147 a barrel they hit at that time. So, I'm sure they thought, let's get it out there that gas price is linked to oil price and the coast is clear. Oh, and did they get it out there, the 'link' was everywhere! LMAO! What happens? Less than 4 months later and the price of oil has decreased by approx 75%!! :rotfl:
Big panic, !!!!!! can we say now? I know, let's say NOTHING. That usually works. :rotfl:Call me Carmine....

Well its not hard to find new reports on the subject
A quote from British Gas "The price of gas has risen in recent months as it is linked to the cost of oil"

Here's a classic quote from that article (which is dated 30/7/08):
"The simple fact though is that we have entered an era of unprecedented high world energy prices." (Phil Bentley, BG MD).
Err, give the crystal ball a little polish, Phil, melad. :rolleyes:Call me Carmine....

Still plenty of time to sign up people-deadline is 20 November 2009:D0

I love the idea that the utility companies somehow benefit from paying high wholesale prices. It makes me laugh.
The way people go on, anyone would think they wanted to believe they were being ripped off. Personally I would rather find some evidence before I felt resentful and bitter, but some people seem to decide they want to be miserable first and then build the logic around that decision later.0

Doh! I thought the deadline was for 2008. Nov 2009, that's a really long time to hold a petition open. By the time Gordon gets to see it the prices may have already come down by then, lol. I noticed there are similar petitions and if more than the same petition is started they are void. There are loads of petitions against the energy companies and one petition is trying to get free energy for those over 75! I think that is taking it too far as OAPs get a fuel allowance each year anyway.0

Exactly, no-one complains to tesco/asda etc. when the price of bread goes up significantly and when they rake in profits from just about every other commodity on earth, but seeing as everyone has to buy gas/electricity then the energy companies are the spawn of satan - everyone has to buy bread as well, but don't worry, the supermarkets are allowed to make profits
I did bring this subject up only recently...

There is another forum on MSE where people do complain about Tesco. For me, if I thought that bread was too dear I'd more than likely buy a bread maker. We do have a choice where we buy our food, in fact people can grow their own veg if they have a garden or make bread from scratch. We don't get the same choice with energy. If things carry on with the energy companies people will die as they choose between 'eat or heat.'0

Exactly. Whoever suggested no-one complains about shops like Tesco profieering really should get out more And, like you say, it's a ludicrous comparison to make, anyway. It's probably what they get taught to say at their induction course. Call me Carmine.... And, like you say, it's a ludicrous comparison to make, anyway.
