I was reading a news story about a village in Russia which got cut off from the grid and didn't have heating for weeks, and they had temperatures of -35 C and nobody died, so I guess this is a chance for us to give those Russians a run for their money!0

I'm waiting for the news where someone actually dies because they can't afford to stay warm, God forbid it doesn't happen, but if it does it will be a disgrace.
This has been happening for as long as I can remember. Every winter you hear of elderly people dying from the cold. I personally think this is not only to do with energy prices but society at large. If a political party was to say "we are going to double / treble the state pension to give these people a decent standard of living but you existing tax payers have to pay a lot more" they wouldnt get elected. Sorry to be so cynical but that is what humanity as a group are like.0 -

Rather than drag this thread off-topic, the plight of those suffering fuel poverty is discussed at length in this thread(including some emotive and nonsensical claims) and it may be better to continue the discussion there.

Possible price cuts forecast ahead - pure speculation from reading it but who knows we could get a drop soon.

Yet other papers this morning(according to 'What the Papers say' on the radio) say that prices will be going up because Putin is forming this cartel(like OPEC) to drive up gas prices.

I wondered how long it would be before the Express nicked my headline.

I think there's every chance of this happening but only when/if the Govt legislate. The energy companies aren't going to be doing it off their own bat, that's for sure. What a sorry mess Thatcher led us in to...Call me Carmine....
