The parking wardens know my car well at school and know my son has a badge and know I struggle to get him to the car after school.
Yes as soon as i am walking down to collect him they are all over my car making sure i have got it in place.
They are waiting for that 1 mistake from me so they can fine me!!!!0 -
I have a blue badge - and although it annoys me when fit and able bodied people park in the disabled bays, there is nothing actually stopping them, apart from good manners, which obviously they have not. A blue badge is not valid in private car parks. The so called traffic attendants dishing out tickets against "illegal parking" in private car parks , is open to a lot of dispute. The advice I have read through the treads is IGNORE! ps I would willingly give up my space any day for somebody elderly and infirm, even if they did not have a badge. Sometimes the elderly are too proud to accept "handouts", and do not apply for things they are entitled too, ok so it can be infuriating to have a stubborn relative, but if and when they do need help, lets give them a bit of respect.0

I'm about to apply for my blue badge, which will make going out with friends easier. Majority of time my disability is visible but I hope on the days it isn't that I don't have to deal with unpleasantness. There is something delicious about writing the first words of a story. Since the beginning of this year, the car park at the shopping centre near where my mum lives has cordoned off the part of the car park nearest the shops for disabled parking only. The disabled parking area is barrier controlled and to get an electronic tag for the barrier one has to take in both the blue badge and copy of the disabled tax disc, They then issue a tag which operates the barrier and a disabled zone car badge wih the registration number on it.
It caused a bit of unpleasentness at first, particularly for those who tried to get a tag but didn't have a disabled tax disc and also visitors to the town so they created about three or four 'normal' disabled spaces a bit further away outside the barriered zone to cater for visitors and those withour disabled tax.
The new system seems to have settled down very well now with no abuse of the bays in the disabled zone and nine times out of ten we can get a space straight away. The only thing we have to remember when we take mum there is to always use her Motability car and not mine or dads car.

Thats insane and very cruel to those who don't have cars solely for the disabled person or can't get higher rate DLA even though they qualify!!!.
Instead of helping, they are slapping most disabled people in the face they should be named and shamed.Barclaycard 3800

I agree with you entirely on this, unfortunately it seems to be coming more and more popular, especially at ASDA, but it should be stopped immediately. It is similar to the way Westminster have a 'White Badge' scheme and Camden a 'Green Badge' scheme for local residents, meaning there are virtually no disabled spaces any more for people who live outside the borough. Some private car parks now require you to have a disabled tax disc to park in a disabled bay.
The whole scheme is fast becoming too disjointed and confusing, it needs a complete overhaul with private companies on board, better still government should legislate to create a national framework for councils and private companies and back it up with an enforceable system of fines and penalty points for serious and repeat offendors.I've given up trying to get my signature to work with the new rules, if nobody knows what the rules are what hope do we have?0 -
My son age 5 has had a blue badge for 2 years now due to severe autism. To be honest, i am pretty fed up wth remarks about how he shouldnt have a blue badge because he can walk.
Yes he can walk, but he doesnt understand danger and doesnt think twice about laying in road to get a good view of a car reg plate or running off.
Just because my son has a hidden disability, that doesnt give people the right to ask ' which on is disabled ' when we go out as a family.
He is in a special needs buggy most of the time, but people still fail to see this. ARGH!!!!!
Amen to that.:T My son is the same & is now 11. I am sick to the back teeth of the *tuts* and disapproving looks when he throws himself down on the floor as he can't comprehend what is going on.Autism Mum Survival Kit: Duct tape, Polyfilla, WD40, Batteries (lots of),various chargers, vats of coffee, bacon & wine.0 -
I agree, I'm going to have to give up my disabled tax disc when my other half starts doing some voluntary work which will require the car (while someone else cares for me), I'm not going to be any less disabled so why should I be excluded from parking in the disabled bays?
In response to the earlier comment that stated that disabled bays should be restricted to wheelchair users - no, sorry, that wouldn't work, I need the extra space to get out of the car even if I'm not using my wheelchair. I also need to park in the bay closest to the Tesco entrance if I'm to stand any chance of making it far enough into the store to borrow a scooter with a shopping basket - this is the only way I can shop!Eat food.
