i had mine as well for a week , found if i out the badge on window dash i can't reach it to put a way .so put some string on it. my first visit was to dreaded tesco , as said earlier on ,on here, open door wide then fell out on to floor lol, least looked bad but no one came , but was ok ... got up limped more off in to the shop.the best bit was today at asda , they used to have a barrier up ..you register in the shop and camera at barrier see's number plate and let you in..barrier out of action a few months but told is coming back soon.. so cound'nt park in disabled bay as needed to take badge in to shop to show them !! they put car make ..model..colour..number plate...on computer ..so when barrier is back if you have'nt registered you can't get in ....big brother stuff
the truth is out there ... on these pages !!

  • If you think your entitled to one....apply for one.

If you get turned down or dont have one or are awaiting a decision....dont park in a disabled space.

Disabled spaces are clearly that, and they are to be used only for people who are entitled to them and have gone down the correct procedure in receiving one!

This is one subject that really pi$$es me off!

I look a normal 34yr old but am unable to drive etc. My husband is my FT carer, but when we park in a disabled space...he gets questioned as he is fine....but then when he starts pulling out the wheelchair for me, they soon scurry off embarrassed. OH often says to the people, well at least you are able to walk which my wife cant! Why should I justify myself to them?

I have had a BB for 4 years now.

I agree why cant people just get on with there own live, and mind there own business.
i am 50 with a blue badge and a dodgy heart, so i cant walk very far on most days.
it always seems to be the over 65,s that want to challenge me when i park up in a disabled bay {why}.

This is a topic that makes my blood boil:mad:

The reason is....on one hand every one here is saying ....

"You have to make a stand and challenge people parking in BB spaces. We have to stick together to make sure only the right people use them!"

So....people get challenged....and then you get people saying.....

"I was stared at again today and then someone came marching over and peered into my window to check I had a Badge! Oh, didnt they seem sheepish when they saw mine"

I guess they havent cottoned on yet that they are getting annoyed by the very people who they are cheering on!! :rotfl:

You couldnt make it up, could you!?

My four year old son has a blue badge as he has cerebral palsy and is registered blind. I would rather be challenged every single time I parked if it meant that non badge holders stopped parking in the bays. I find it really difficult to lift him into his wheelchair from a normal space as I can't get the door open enough and it puts me in a really awkward position for lifting him.

I think the important thing when being challenged is to be polite - to be honest I am seldom challenged but when I am I thank the person for helping to keep the spaces free from abuse and explain that my use is legitimate. I don't believe these people are challenging the use of the spaces to be nosey or interfere, I really think it is public spirited. What does anyone hope to gain other than abuse (be the user legitimate or not)?

Just before Christmas, I challenged a young lad in a flash car when I couldn't find a space. I very politely tried to make him realise that using a blue badge space meant that people like myself had to use a normal one and how difficult it was to lift my son out of the car. I can't say he had any empathy to my situation whatsoever but I really feel people should try this approach, he certainly went very red and will think very hard before he parks in one again.

Most people probably have no understanding of what it is like to live with disabilities and certainly people who abuse the blue badge scheme don't. Trying to get these people to understand by being angry to them will only serve to alienate them and think that disabled people have chips on their shoulders.
  • I have been challenged once over using a bb - it is my sons. Whilst not in our home town (I think that everyone here knows him!!!), an elderly woman came over to look at the front of the car and tutted when I got out and walked easily to the boot. She continued to tut and said that I didnt look as though I needed a blue badge.
I started to get my sons wheelchair out and politely said that it wasnt mine. At that she started to rant. I unlocked my son out of his carseat and suggested that she appologise to my son and I carried him to his chair. She appologised to him and said that she had never realised that children could need a blue badge too - that it had never occurred to her! Oh, to have such a sheltered life!!

I had a problem with a woman at our council who was adamant that I couldnt get a parking permit for outside our house as it was for a disabled driver. The department head had said that it was for blue badge holders, but she was adamant that only disabled drivers could have blue badges. She was rather rude until her manager came down and told her she was incorrect!!!!

We joined the blue badge association in case we had any problems with confrontations - which we havent really, but still keep up the membership. They are a great group and very knowledgeable about getting around with limited mobility. We also got a free radar key from the council - but it isnt much use - but thats a different issue!!
  • In my view, three excellent posts above from LittleTinker, Edale and longhotbath.

I hadn't heard of a Blue Badge Association. I shall google it.
  • Stupid council woman I suspect she has little contact with disabled people. A lot of people who require full time care wouldn't be able to drive even if they are old enough.

I'm getting nothing googling BBA apart from a close site. Sorry you have not found the radar system of use we love ours.
