Grrr - blue badge
Comments
-
I am 34 and have 3 children - i also have a cracking list of illnesses.
The amount of old people who sit glaring at me whilst i park in a disabled space and then unload the kids really embarrasses me.
I use the buggy in the same way they use zimmer frames (god knows what i will do when my youngest is out of a buggy!!).
I do not not "look" disabled but believe me i am - i feel like getting some business cards printed with a list of conditions and treatments !
Shopping trolleys make great zimmer frames too! Thats my regular thing but it needs to be of the shallow variety so I can actually get things out. Unfortunately a proportion of the older population consider a blue badge qualifier is a pension book. As far as I am considered I'd swap that badge for a set of lungs that behave tomorrow but for now I'll use it so I can have as full a life as possible. My bug bear is the late at night mis-use at supermarket & being told well disabled dont go out at night. Oh I fail again, then as I do!0 -

The holder can use it either when driving themselves or in any vehicle in which they are driven. It follows that anyone other than the Badge Holder is at fault if they use the badge without the Holder being in the car.
I hear and see soooo many times, Mums going to the chemist for their disabled kids, for example, and they say they are entitled to park in a BB bay as they are running errands for the disabled.
Wrong.
In fact there was a thread not so long ago where posters were arguing over this point.
It is so so annoying. I feel like saying You are not disabled!!! Dont park there!!!0 -
so in effect, a disabled person can apply for a blue badge, and yet not actually own a vehicle. they would hand the blue badge to whomever was transporting them around as and when needed?
that is soooooooo open to abuse - but i suppose that there is probably no other solution. i bet there are a fair few people who borrow their disabled companion's badge when they are popping down the shops.0 -

Yes so a parent can apply on there behalf, it is not easy to get a blue badge my daughter got turned down and had to appeal, yet 6 months later she got high rate of DLA and you are automatically entitled to onethat is soooooooo open to abuse - but i suppose that there is probably no other solution. i bet there are a fair few people who borrow their disabled companion's badge when they are popping down the shops.
Yes it is open to abuse by people. I could easily do it but I dont0 -
there should be a parking space for disabled...mums and kids..and elderly .. as before i got my blue badge i had to go round and round waiting for a space near an entrance .as walking is so painful for me.. if you look on here, young looking disabled people are being attacked by rude older people , i see plenty of people parking with out the badge, when i got mine after reading on here i was worried using it as my mental state would reduce me to tears if some one said some thing. on first visit to car park ,open door ..then fell out the door on to the floor .. what a start ..people walked off ..i managed to get up and was ok ... lol
Crikey Jamla I can't believe no one came to help you that's awful I hope you didn't hurt yourself hugs.0 -
I am glad you did challenge them assuming you were polite as I'm sure you were. It's the arrogant assumption that a person is cheating that really angers / upsets people when they challenge aggressively.
I believe the scheme should be strictly monitored and fines imposed everywhere as these spaces are often abused. However I would like it extended to include temporary badges, e.g. if on crutches due to a broken leg. In this position myself I find it hard to shop or even attend my hospital appointments due to the walking involved. I expect to be disabled for 4-6 months yet which is ages but not enough to earn me a badge as not permanant.0 -

The above statement is incorrect. There are certain circumstances where it is permissable. Examples would be if the Badge Holder were being collected, the driver could use the badge to park as close as possible; also parking at home where the badge holder needs to be able to get to the car etc. So, if my husband delivers me to or collects me from a shop/friend he can use the badge to park to enable me to get to/from my destination but if he goes out on his own, he can't use my badge to park where he's going but he can park in the disabled space and display the badge when he gets home.
N.B. Running errands doesn't count as, although it is for the badge-holders benefit and therefore a tax disc can be used, the badge holder isn't involved in the errand and so does not need the parking concession.Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants - Michael Pollan

I agree. My answer was ambiguous. The Blue Badge is for the benefit of the Badge Holder to be taken out to shops, hospital or wherever.0 -
I personally get very angry when people who do not have a blue badge use a blue badge park. There have been many times during my illness that having these parking spaces available is the only reason I have been able to look after myself (I have a blue badge). I don't think there is any excuse that is valid. For example, can you not drop your elderly relative off at the entrance and then park the car legally or apply for a blue badge if you really need it. Many elderly people have better mobility than me!!!
Many times I have had to do some shopping for myself and I have had to turn around and go home because the spaces have been used by people who do not have a badge and I have not been able to walk the distance from the available space without high levels of pain and medication. I would give anything to be able to walk properly and do not understand why people who are healthy cannot walk the short distance to the shops.0 -
I have had my BB for a week. My father used it for the first time the other day to collect me from the hospital. He parked in a disabled bay and displayed badge correctly. He rung my OH to tell him he'd arrived and so my OH ran out with all my belongs before coming to back to push me out in my chair. Father was rudely questioned over eligibility almost immediately. He just said yes he was collecting daughter and pointed at BB. Lady looked suitably embarassed when OH wheeled me out.
Just proves that some people seem to have a bee in their bonnet about it. It is a shame. OH and I now have "Tescos fear". If we get hounded in the hospital whats its going to be like in tesco? :rotfl:DFW Nerd #11520
