Grrr - blue badge

There are no concessions for disabled in car parks in Barnstaple N. Devon, seems stupid, because now, although we are not causing an obstruction, we park on double yellow lines, which in turn makes the road narrower! Surly better to have the vehicles off the road ? Or are the council so short of money.0

I have a question I hope you can help me with.
My husband has a Blue Badge. The streets around my home are constantly parked full between the hours of 8.30 and 5.00, so if I am away and come home within that time I usually can't find a place to park. Yesterday I was away with mu husband and when we got home again, everything was full. So I parked on the double yellow lines and walked him home. I forgot to put out the badge, forgot to return to the car immediately, and when I did return about an hour later there was a parking ticket on it.
Can I appeal, even though I had forgotten to put out the badge?
Can I can apply to get a diabled parking bay outside our home?0 -
Hi arunadasi,
you could appeal againd sth the ticket, but you are very unlikely to to have it cancelled as you did not put the badge out.
If parking is a problem, and you cannot create a drive out of your front garden (if you have one), you could request that your local council create a blue bdge parking space outside your house.
However - it would NOT be just for your use - anyone with a blue badge would be able to use that space. (one of my friends managed to get her council to create a bb space, only to have it used repeatedly by a commuter who also had a bb.0 -
I would love to call the powers-that-be and show them the non disabled drivers sitting at my local Tesco on a Saturday at 7am. The drivers don't care having dropped off an abled bodied person to do their shopping. Tesco doesn't care but the local Asda puts up sign about their new parking rules.
One question. When we park in the diababled bay do we have to pay for one of the tickets/tokens? I haven't yet.0 -

Hmm not so sure that you can appeal the ticket, as you said, YOU forgot to put it out. But why not try, you havent got anything to lose
Yes you can certainly apply to have a disabled parking space outside your home, but it won't be soley for your use, any disabled person could use it. (as is often the case around here)0 -

Thanks. No we can't create a drive bedcause it's a block of flats! I think I'm going to apply. It might work at least part of the time!0 -

Regarding having to pay for a ticket...It all depends on the carpark (or who ever runs them), Some car parks allow you 3 hours free parking but others you still have to pay for a ticket, I would advise people to always check the ticket machines for notices about disabled parking charges0 -

What exactly are the rules for getting a blue badge?
My neighbour has a blue badge and has a wheelchair in his campervan boot for assesment days but rides a cycle, mows his lawn and walks to the pub inbetween.0 -

Now that depends on which authority you are in etc. Call them or email to ask.0 -

You can appeal and hope they are feeling kind & generous. I got stung with a £50 fine for forgetting the time clock (it was tucked under the badge), appealed, grovelled etc but no I had to pay0
