In fairness though this has never seemed to stop Argos selling returned/second hand goods before. How many people have bought items in argos to get them home only to find that the item has already been opened and a vital piece/nut/bolt is missing. This has been such a frequent problem in the past that whenever (now infrequent) I have to purchase something from this awful store I now open the packaging and ensure that all parts are present before setting off home.0 -

and therein lies the nub. everyone is quick to complain when they get given second hand goods (and fairly so), but lord help any of us poor argos staff who refuse to refund a customer; most seem to think that its their god given right.
working on customer services i see both signs of the coin, and get very angry with employees who clearly dont check things over before putting them back into stock. but what a lot of you dont seem to realise is the barefaced lies we are told. i'll never forgot the lady who tried to return a deep fat fryer that had "never been used"; funny then that you couldnt even hold the box because it was swimming in grease from said fryer. before anyone jumps in, im not accusing the OP of anything, just sharing an experience.
what i will say is that if the OP had brought the watch back to me then unless it was 100% free of marks and damage from the alteration then i would have refused the refund too. That comes from someone who knows the force and manipulation it takes to adjust some of the watches we sell and what it does to the pins/links etc.
as things stand, im glad the OP is happy with the outcomeknow thyselfNid wy'n gofyn bywyd moethus...0 -
in fairness to the op she had been directed by argos to the company because they had an agreement with them to make alterations on their behalf...now had she not been given that advice and had she gone elsewhere to get the watch altered I would have agreed with you. If the Argos store in question had offered this service the situation would not have arisen, if the argos store had not directed her to an other company and agreed to pay for the alteration this situation would not have arisen.
The last time I bought a watch I went into the watch shop and as I have small wrists asked if they would be able to take some links out so it would fit, they removed the links and checked to make sure it fit correctly before taking my payment, if had not fit correctly I would not have bought it and the shop would not have expected me to buy it, because the original Argos store directed the OP somewhere else (because of this agreement and reimbursed her charges as appeared to be common practice in this store) I would suggest this is no different and they should have refunded the cost of the watch. (You comment on the force required to take links out...this is not the customers responsibility, if Argos deem the other shop competent to carry out these link removals on its behalf then they should also be prepared to accept returns where the alteration has not been succesful)0 -
In any respect however, it is a moot point, as the OP has been refunded....perhaps a lesson to only use Argos where absolutly necessary (and to always check what you are given before you leave the shop)0

I have only 2 things to say
I like Uganda (the poster that is, Ive never been to the place)
I seem to remember D edna or whatever admitting in a post today that she/he was a troll.
And well done with the watch and sticking up for yourself.( i lied, i really wanted to say 3 things)make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -

Perhaps all we need, as well as a quote button and a thanks button
is a 'sod off' button:rotfl: :rotfl:make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

I was about to say that Annie, I would be very surprised if d.edna would ever admit that.
But it was lovely of you to say you like me, though I can't imagine why, so thank you!0 -

oh. yes you did, i remember reading yesterday someone accusing you of being a troll and you said yes you were, anyway, whatever. Unfortunately, i cant remember which post it was but you were doing a bit of stirring.
Uganda, you were just so nice and sympathetic with the poster while others were having a go. i say what comes around goes around and good luck to you.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

Well, annie, that's lovely of you to say so, there are lots of us in here who try our best to help, including many who have the dignity to ignore rogue posters, which maybe I should do. But I suppose I grew up at a time when being aggressive to people whose pleasantness you mistake for weakness was instantly recognised as bullying and cowardice.
I suspect that you too remember those days (and I mean that in the kindest possible way!)
I do think you may be mistaken though about d.edna's admission, but it would be a relief for everyone if you were right! She has now resorted to claiming I have been sending her PMs, which is simply not true and I have reported it. I don't suppose much will happen though, sigh!0
