Well, that is good news! I'm delighted for you, and I'm delighted that Argos were big enough to accept moral responsibility, regardless of whether or not they had a legal one.

And of course it just goes to show how right you are to ignore the naysayers!
  • Goods have to be fit for their purpose. If the watch strap cannot be altered so that it fits your wrist it is clearly not fit for purpose.

    Demand compensation!!

Poor Argos have ended up out of pocket as they paid for the alteration......

Er no. In actual fact I had a lot of sympathy with the OP who was promised at the point of sale that the watch could be adjusted. Argos should have provided better customer service instead of wriggling out of its obligations, and I agree with what Paul Varjak said. The OP has had to waste considerable amounts of time traipsing around with a useless watch.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I thought that the purpose of a watch was to TELL THE TIME.

So the 'fit for purpose' angle mentioned above is crap, providing it works with a battery in it.
The word 'watch' is a shortened version of the word 'wristwatch'. Therefore if it cannot be worn in its intended place, then it is unfit for purpose - unless of course you are suggesting she straps it round her ankle. :rotfl:

Good on you OP for persevering, sorry you had to endure the nonsense of ignorant fools.

Would that be the compensation that 'causes the price of goods to be more expensive in the UK than Europe or the US'? (c) Brooker Dave

It tells you everything you need to know about d.edhead that he worships Brooker.

You know, when I was about 6, in the school playground the stock response to someone calling you a twit was to say 'I know you are!' Thanks to d.edna, that humour survives to this day, hooray!

Thankfully for Lucylocket, she got her result despite being plagued by rudeness and unhelpfulness throughout her thread - this from a community that is supposed to help its members. 'Help' can sometimes mean being honest with someone and saying 'to be honest I think the shop's right' and there will inevitably be differences of opinion, but the rudeness she has had to put up with has been disgraceful and those responsible should be ashamed of themselves. Thankfully she is made of stern stuff and was able to let the insults go without rising to them, for which I thoroughly admire her.

Perhaps we should start a 'rude room' where we can all go and knock lumps out of each other and let the rest of the community help each other with practical everyday issues?

Out of pocket for the alteration. It was only £2. If you're so worried send them a chq.
Personally I think they will survive.

As for the rest of you, well I really dont give a flying watch strap what any of you think. I have my money back, and Im happy. Maybe if more of you stuck to your guns like me then you wouldnt be in as much debt as you are.

I spoke to Argos today who appologised for their staffs attiitude on Wednesday. They were more than happy to refund me. Just goes to show that it was all down to that perticular branches staff being usreasonable.
Thankyou all for your time, which I'm sure you enjoyed.
