  • Hi FC

I'm on the Nottingham/Derbyshire border quite near where Inra disappeared from but hadn't heard anything about Inra until reading this.

Let me know of any searches as I'd be glad to help and/or supply food to leave.

Have you alerted rambling/walking groups as these are out most weekends and cover large areas of rural Derbyshire? Derby IVC would be another option as they do a lot of outdoor events and have a lot of members that are also in rambling associations. Many walkers also take dogs with them so if Inra is dog friendly they might have seen something. Derby Scout/Guide movement and Camp Sites would also be a good idea. Stables/horseriding groups?

Could anyone set up a basic website where people could log sightings on a map? This may show up any repeated patterns of movement.

Sorry to end on a downer but considering the state of him in the last sighting, is it likely he has survived the cold snap?

I've only just seen this thread and I'm breaking my heart for this poor love. He looks so much like my late dear Lucy. Hope you don't mind but I've sent the link to my daughter, she's not in the Derbys area but belongs to a national doggie organisation and hopefully she'll circulate it...although I hope her friends in that area are already aware but I don't know what else I can do.

God bless and keep you safe Inra :A
  • Thanks Breakineven - a very useful post - its interesting to know this is news to you, and I suspected it may be outside the very immediate area, despite the efforts of volunteers to get the work out through postering and fliers etc.. The Belper local paper have been quite good too...

We may well need practical help if we get any more sightings, so thanks for that.

Tigerlily suggested walking and rambling groups yesterday, I think its a great idea, and am hoping to look into that today... (if anyone has any contacts please do let me know)

In the meantime, if you are on facebook, please do join his group or page, if not, please pass the links on to anyone you know in the area who is... i am hoping this will raise awareness, especially among teenagers, who are often the people who are out in the evenings, who walk and cycle more than drive, who visit parks, who sit outdoors with their friends etc etc - so who may be more likely to see Inra than those of us who prefer to be in by the fire after dark!!!

I will look into whether we can get a map online anywhere.

I will also see if I can get some updated posters online anywhere so people can print them off and display if possible.

As to whether he has survived - well I don't know is the quick answer. On the plus side, he was definitely still alive in mid december, he has a thick coat and he lived in an outdoor shed for all his early life...

On the minus side, he has no hunt instinct and does not chase rabbits, so will not be catching food to eat. It is believed he is scavenging, so I suppose it depends whether his claorie intake is enough to sustain him.

It is of course, possible that he has died, however, it is equally possible that he has moved on and is now in an area where people are not aware of him, and are not reporting sightings. Hence the facebook page kindly set up by Racyred!

I will look into whether we can get a map online anywhere.

Google maps offers the opportunity to create a personalised map where you can place markers on to identify certain locations. This sort of thing would be ideal to plot Inra's sightings. Does anyone know how to set this up?

Just had a quick look and it seems pretty straight forward to use assuming you have a Google account. Have a look here ... http://maps.google.co.uk/maps/ms?hl=en&ie=UTF8&msa=2&mid=1231767385

  • Even though people may have already done it, can I suggest copying ALL the details into an e-mail and sending it round to EVERYONE you know .. even people living in the States, Canada etc.

It is amazing just how many people are in contact with folks in the UK thanks to the t'internet .. you never know, someone overseas may have had an e-mail from a UK pal telling them about the little dog they have found!

Send it on to everyone you know, tell them this is not a viral, this is something that is ongoing and if they can help by passing the details on to their friends, then the news can get out and more people can be aware of this little dog.

Someone might have picked him up and taking him out of the area ... he's not forced to still be where he was last seen, so it doesn't matter if your e-mail buddies aren't in that area ... the more people know about him, the more can be on the lookout.

As I say, am probably suggesting something everyone's already done, but I'm new to this thread, so have just sent off an e-mail to everyone I know ...

Fingers crossed for this little chap.
  • Thanks Yorkie Pud - it is very unlikely someone has take him in or found him, his fear of humans is over-riding and is exactly what has made him so hard to catch so far. His original owners kept him in a shed and beat him, then he went to the RSPCA, and was re-homed, which is where he went missing from.

If you do circulate the info, please remember, we do not want people to try and catch him, just to report sightings to the numbers listed. Trying to catch him could end up with him fleeing and putting himself in more danger.
  • Have you got him registered with Dog Lost
    http://www.doglost.co.uk/
They have people all over the country that will help out, and I have posted to a couple of Dog e-mail lists.
Fingers crossed he is caught soon
  • yeah, I think he has been on there for a long time Spitze, but I will double check
    thanks!
