Afternoon all.
There seem to be so many here who have sadness or illness of one sort or another to deal with; PenPin, Stef, D&DD, Taplady, Candygirl immediately come to mind - those I've missed, my apologies, I'm not good at remembering names, but my thoughts are with you all.
Mr LW has a day off tomorrow, which is good, as I need to get ahead with the weekends jobs as we are going out Sunday to meet a friend at a pub near her house, some 40 miles from ours. I'm quite nervous, which I know is silly, as I've known her for about 15 years or more; but we only see each other about once a year, and it's always a bit of an ordeal for me.
I also have to go to the GP for a meds check tomorrow morning - I hate them; it seems such a waste of time, as they always just say to carry on as I am, and it's just another occasion for me to get nervous to the point of literally shaking. I think I'll get Mr LW to come with me.
Last Sunday we did a (very rare) largish shop at Tesco and got given a voucher for 5p off each litre of petrol, so as the car needed filling up yesterday, we went there instead of our usual garage. Only trouble was Mr LW then decided we were going on to the pub afterwards.:o He always says "Do we want to go to the pub?" which actually means "I want to go to the pub and I'll be disappointed if you say no" so I don't have the heart to demur. Could have done without it last night really, as I was in all honesty way too tired. Oh well, housew*rk can go to h*ll today!:rolleyes:If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0 -
Hi everybody:hello: Sorry so many people seem to be having such bad news at the moment.(((HUGS)))
P-P glad to hear you're home and doing ok,and well done to OH for doing a good job in looking after you.
I've given the kitchen a really good clean and tidy this morning-got a bit messy yesterday as I made the Christmas cake and pud! It didnt help that I couldn't find the weight for my pressure cooker, and wanted to cook the pud in it.I had the place upside down, nowhere to be seen.Ended up just steaming it in the p.cooker pan.I did think about ringing DH at work to see if he'd seen it,but thought it must have got thrown away by mistake.Asked him when he came home-he went straight to the little ledge made by the splashback, there it was hiding behind the utensil rack. His mum used to say 'hiders can find'.
Corned beef hash for tea tonight and might get some rice pud out of the freezer.I need to do some baking this aft for the packed lunches too,so better get off here and do something  R R xx:heartsmil 'A woman is like a teabag: You never know her strength until you drop her in hot water'. Thank you for lovely messages. We went to playgroup again today and little bear had a marvellous time. He just ran and ran and ran. Then he ran some more. Then he played - full speed. Then he ran. Then he just sat down in the playground outside, because he had had enough and was stopping now. He is now blissfully and wonderfully asleep.
DD&D - so sorry to hear your news. Would you be able to write letters? It is something for him to have, go over, think about... It helps 'take him out of himself'. When I had to be away from dear heart when my late mother was poorly I wrote every day (easy for me - I was born with lots and lots of words) and dear heart had a 'hug' from them. It is a way of keeping company. Also when my late mother was poorly and I was living a long way away I had a deal with free minutes and I used to ring her up for a listen every night, which was a help to my brother looking after her because he had a break then. Also true that you cannot look after anyone properly if you don't look after yourself. (I should take my own advice)
Hugs to all.
Hester - my dear heart has a degree, from the days when only 5% of the population went to university. And he cannot wash up dishes. I have no idea how he manages it but he is useless. What is the degree in? I do not want to disparage anyone who has a degree in flower arranging but it is a lot less awe inspiring that an degree in particle physics.
I took the first of the new batch of tablets last night. I did feel poorly but it was in the night and little bear so rarely stirs. I am resolving to think very positive thoughts. Also apologies for typing - I seem to be all jumbled. I have found something new to fret about. I can't concentrate/think well and I have no idea what to get who and what I already have for Christmas. I shall have to be methodical as dear heart is not very expert at Christmas.
Must say something Old Style.... Well I am proud because I have the second lot of washing in and I know what we are having tongiht for tea. Baked potatoes with baked beans and bacon.Ankh Morpork Sunshine Sanctuary for Sick Dragons - don't let my flame go out!0 -
WS, let the new tablets kick in, and worry about Christmas presents in a lttle while, but not today!
Maybe you could have a snooze while LB is asleep? I'm sure it won't hurt if you had a disturbed night
By the way, your comment about particle physicians & washing up explains why my DS1 (phys & astronomy) isn't very good at it! However, chemists (as in my OH) are very good at washing up, and philosophers (DS2) are good at talking to me while I wash up!0 -
Went to Marks and got a huge chicken, roast veg, pudding and wine for £10.
Managed to stop DH grabbing loads of other stuff.
Spent ages this morning booking train ticket online for dd(23) to come home for the weekend as the site went off and the prices kept getting dearer depending on time of journey.
Nice to see penny pincher back.
Having a tin of big soup with home made bread for lunch that I ordered from the bargain site and tea will be roast potatoes done in the Remoska with sausages and veg.
Hester
Wonder what the "degree" is in , what class and how long ago she got it?
Doubt it was in tact or efficiency!;) :rotfl:"This site is addictive!"

Hello everyone, new to this board.
Sending loads of hugs to everyone who needs (or wants) them.
Proud of myself today for making a large batch of veggie mince padded out with breadcrumbs, carrot and courgette (whizzed up in the food processor). My OH has been warned of new culinary creations for dinner tonight, he said I was becoming a right little Martha Stewart and did I think I could commit some fraud to make us some money while I was at it! :rotfl:
Made some pie type things for tonight with breadcrumb and cheese topping and a big pan of bolognaise to freeze (though I'm waiting to see if the pies taste ok first).
Should be dong some work towards my Masters now but instead I'm going to have a very late lunch and go in the bath. I'll do the work after that...maybe
Nice to meet everyone, sending hugs and good wishes to you all.0 -
:hello: Good afternoon!
First I must send big ((((HUGS)))) to everyone in need of some - there seem to be a lot of us atm!
Wannabe Sybil - glad to hear little bear enjoyed playgroup! Your body will take a little while to get used to the new tablets, but hopefully it will be worth it soon. Thank you for your pm.
Penny_Pincher - Hope you slept well.
Welcome to turfy6 and Esor! I was just catchng up with the "Getting to know you" thread. Well done for the shepherd's pie:T (I think that was Esor, apologies if not, memory like a sieve:rolleyes: )
D & DD, and Cheapskate - so sorry to hear the news about Dad/FIL.
elona - I hope you managed to book your DD a ticket at a not too eye-watering price!
Rosy Red - Glad to hear your pressure cooker weight turned up! New ones are quite hard to find these days. Last winter we spent a few days in Cornwall and I was pleased to find pressure cooker spares in a shop in Truro, so I bought a new gasket and a pack of 2 safety valves (though they call them "Ready indicators" now, perhaps so as not to scare people off) i would have bought a new weight too, just to "be on the safe side", but they hadn't any.
meanmarie - hope you feel better soon! You have had a very busy and worrying time, so try to make sure you are looking after yourself as well as other people.:)
AussieLass - That storm must have been really scary! It even made the London Evening Standard! Glad you are all okay at any rate.
Just been putting the WM on with a "boil" wash for the kitchen towels and teatowels. (What exciting news for you to read:rolleyes: )
Dinner will be braised turkey with mushrooms - been meaning to try it out since buying some Chestnut mushrooms from Lidl last week. They are in a sealed package and still look fine!
all for now, best wishes to all

Hi all,
Well its starting to get cold again:mad: So i hope that you all are finding ways to keep warm. The only thing we can really so is keep the heating on because of the 5 month old twins we have! But we have only got it on low. and if it gets colder tomorrow then we will put a cardey on them and put the heating up a bit. i dont wont the heating up on high all the time not because of how much it costs but i think that it drys the air out. and i dont think that is really very good for you. But we will see how we get on.
I hope that you are all ok and having a good day.
