Yes, agree a great thread. I'm a big fan of coconut oil, it's my go to oil for cooking. For health and beauty I use it to cleanse with, a balm for cuticles and dry patches. It's a great weekly hair mask and I use it for oil pulling. Did try it in coffee but not so keen. I have been using for a few years now and have tried Groovy Food and Lucy Bee but lately have been buying the Coco Loco brand from Aldi due to cost. Lucy Bee was my favourite and it was Fair Trade but a bit pricey though they have now reduced their pricing going forward.0

Hey,
What is the best coconut oil to buy in the UK, there are so many options in the market and online from organic, non organic, raw, extra virgin, unrefined and refined. When buying what should i look for to get a good brand? I have come across a few on Amazon & Holland & Barrett, i just wanted to know what people are currently using?
Thanks0 -

Have you read the link in my post above yours?
If you scroll towards the bottom, it tells you the different sorts.
What do you intend using it for?

Yes! Coconut oil works best and can be used for various purpose. It can also be used as a great skin moisturizer. I have experienced a lot of change in my skin by using coconut oil.0

The link from this link to the dental benefits brings up complete woo-woo nonsense! A lot of the things said are technically correct - and also things that dentists quite routinely tell patients, but then it flies off into the realms of pure fiction.
Let's face it coconut oil is probably very nice, but hats off to the industry's marketing department. A lovely 'snake oil' for the 2010'sHow to find a dentist.
1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.0 -

I came across it when researching a specific health issue I had and it helped that.
Perhaps you could enlighten posters which parts are 'technically correct' and which bits fly 'off into the realms of pure fiction' from a dental perspective.
That might be helpful.0 -
There is no peer reviewed research to show any benefits to dental health from using coconut oil (most usually in oil pulling).
There are a couple of papers from India which are generally quoted but are highly criticised as the research is highly biased and poorly carried out.
Oil pulling and coconut oil may have had some use in the past and are better than no cleaning at all , but are just as effective as using plain water as a cleaning method. You are better off using toothpaste (containing fluoride) toothbrush and floss or interdental brushes.
This is a good summary of the scientific consensus https://sciencebasedmedicine.org/oil-pulling-your-leg/0 -
I posted the link, I didn't say it was 100% accurate.

Basically teeth can remineralise so long as dietary conditions are right (sugars not ingested too frequently).
Remineralised just means that tooth softened up by acid attack can harden again. The article suggests that there is a mechanism that can regrow tooth enamel. There is not. Once a tooth has lost structure, then it needs filling to restore its shape. Coconut oil, or anything, will not regrow tooth.
Maybe you should just highlight the part that specifically helped? There is an awful lot of unhelpful rubbish on the internet that gets blindly repeated until people just believe it.How to find a dentist.
