Hey guys - I just stumbled upon this thread. I haven't had the chance to read the whole thing, but some of the prices being quotes seemed quite steep for coconut oil: I just bought 500g of pure coconut oil in a tub for £2.68 in a Thai supermarket this evening.
I'm going to make soap with mine.
I use it for making soap, too(My last batch was a blend of olive oil and coconut oil)
I use the KTC coconut oil which is about £2 for 250ml / £3 for 500ml
I've never cooked with it, though!0 -
Hi
i've been reading this thread and decided I'd get myself some coconut oil for my skin, cause i'm fed up with the chemical laden beauty products and also cause i have quite dry sensitive skin. I also thought it might i'd take it internally too.
i've ordered some from coconoil co.uk but, being an impatient person and keen to get started on using it i went into holland and barrett on monday and bought a tub (i've read on here that its not as pure as it says it is) but i thought it would do until my delivery arrives.
Well its now thursday and my face is feeling a bit hot as if i have sunburn or windburn and looks (at times) a bit pinkish - surely this isn't right? does anyone else have this experience - am i allergic to coconut oil< or what??0 -
I don't have a problem with using coconut oil on my skin but it sounds as if you possibly do. Are there any other ingredients in the H&B one you're using? It might be something elsse triggering it. I would leave off using it, and when you other order arrives try it out on your wrist for a few days first to see if you get a reaction.0

I stir a spoonful into my porridge every morning - so yummy and I find I don't need to add any sugar now0

thanks, dandy candy i will. I can't find anything that suggests that coconut oil can cause an allergic reaction so maybe its not using chemically based creams in my face0

I've just ordered a tub off iHerb, can't wait for it to arrive! I have dry skin on my face so I'm planning on using it as a moisturiser. I also love the idea of putting some in my porridge as an alternative to sugar!0

I bought a jar from Tesco last week, it was in the aisle where all the Food Doctor and gluten free stuff is usually stacked. Not cheap but it's organic virgin cold pressed. It's great on my skin and I love the smell and taste of it.

I think Sainsburys stock it too.0 -
Read a bit of this thread as a few weeks ago a friend said her grandson was using coconut oil in his food , lasagne etc. I thought it was strange as he's a fitness instructor + eats healthily . Sorry if this question has been asked , does it not taste sweet when you fry or brown meat etc ?0

It only has a very slight coconutty taste, which is not unpleasant. The flavour of other foods would overpower it if he's cooking with it.
For about 3 months I'd eat 3 heaped teaspoons a day, melted into a cup of tea or coffee. Then I suddenly just went off it last month (too much of it I guess) and now I have 2 big jars sitting about that I just can't stomach. Boo.0 -

I might try some for my skin but just the thought of eating it makes me feel nauseous ! Thanks for the reply tho' . Could you not use yours for a skin cream or your cuticles as I read some others do ? Shame to waste it .0
