Funds...why bother

Options
I have just totalled the sharedealing I have done with the proceeds of a policy I took out with a well known finance house, after two months I have made back the £1500 I was down after saving with them for ten years! Funds why bother:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: Thoughts.
Love your son.

    FWIW here are my thoughts

If you do not understand shares are for long term not instant profit [unless you are one of the City whizz kids], then you really should not have bought them in the first place

Too late now, whatever you do, do not compound your folly by selling, that is the normal reaction of novice investors, buy when high, sell low at loss

    No.

Was the fund a poor performer in its sector or was the sector you were just didnt have the best of periods?

Well my apologies Farway but that is a particularly heavy load of A**e you posted there mate. Shares are for anytime, long or short and I prefer the latter. Get in make some money and get out quick before you lose your shirt that's what listening to the good advice has taught me.

Would you like to share with us how you made the £1500? Perhaps you have the Midas touch, or good information or good luck?
  • After endowments, pensions, equitable life, unit trust losses etc.... the finance industry is no longer trusted by a sizeable subset of the current generation - many of whom have personally had their fingers burn't.

Nice to see your investment strategy includes sensible things like trailing stops to maximise returns and minimise losses. But hey, why worry about having a robust methodology when you can just get in and out quick before the world comes crashing down around you, right? Better to push that sell button in a panic than not push it at all.

    Hmm.
    Mmmm, credit crunch. Tasty.
