Me three
I'm not a prolific poster of this thread but I read it often. I've been amazed at how far back the pages it drops to these days. Has everyone defected? Maybe the stalwarts have said all they can?
I love the bendy ways all these different topics intertwine. It's exactly like my house growing up with 9 siblings. A ton of different conversations going on at the same time and you dip in and out at leisure. Was/is quite a gift, this thread.Grocery Challenge M: £450/£425.08 A: £400/£.May -£400/£361 June £380/£230 (pages 18 & 27 explain)0 -

me too!
Am posting here buying some stuff off another site, washing, preparing stuff for BBQ, entertaining kids and dog. Cleaning up and planning how else I can re-organise the stuff in the house so it all looks tidier!
Have already got rid of a load of stuff on freecycle yesterday while DH at work,(he wouldnt let me get rid if he was here so have to wait for him to be at work) its a very slow process. Have moved a bookcase today and reorganised some files on it.0 -
We are back from holiday now and I am getting into the swing of using my storecupboard goodies and what a lot I have to get through. It was always the grand plan to start using this spring and then see how it goes in the world out there, next winter. Looks like we`re going to be having lots of pilchard and corned beef meals.
I realise that I haven`t been posting on the thread for a while but it is oh so interesting to read all your posts. Life goes on, doesn`t it?
We certainly saw how the rich live, over easter. I spent an arm and a leg hiring a huge 16th century place in the cotswolds and all the children and spouses and grandchildren joined us. There was so MUCH space to heat and light and a wonderful oil fired aga. It has made me realise that the rich who own and run these houses, are burning enough fuel for the rest of us. I mean I have come back with my green credentials feeling battered. Like what is the point? Although I know I will carry on doing my bit as always. That massive place was bought and renovated to be a retirement property!!! Well they will get leg ache from all the walking in the property. Oh and both baths were gianormous and far too big for me to use, I would have drowned. Tbh, there is something satisfying in getting back to our light, cosy and energy-efficient town house
There is one thing I am doing and that is spending now on things I want (not need) and in the main lately, it is cd`s. Last night I discovered anthony ventura and I bought several of his cds. They sound so gorgeous if you listen to bits amazon. I know we are in a different position to most ie retired with no mortgage and savings and I have reached a psychological point when I am thinking that we should benefit from our frugality over 40 years. It`s about bloomin time!!! :T0 -
Kittie its only right that you spoil yourself now, as long as you can afford why should you not live a little. No doubt you will be back to your usual ways but sometimes its right to let go a little.
And a holiday with all your family will have generated such memories to be remembered for years to come, how can you put a price on that ?
One of the memorable days in my life, was when we hired a minibus and my nan and grandad took all their kids and their offspring to Blackpool, it was an amazing day, we all still talk about it at family get togethers now ( twenty years later)0 -
I think my money saving and home made everything may have just come to bite me on :eek:the bottom!
Its my DS 11th birthday in a few weeks, and usually we orgabise a trip to the cinema with a couple of friends or bowling etc.
However he has decided that this year he wants to have some frineds to house, to be served HM pizzas (all individual made to order so that they can pick their own topping!!) and HM desserts.
Then watch a movie with HM popcorn.
While this will cost very little the idea of 6/7 ten/eleven year old boys running rampage round my house, the day after they finish SATs as school fills me with dread!:eek::eek: Would rather spend the money and pay them not to come into my house!:D0
