It is tough NOW. So how are we coping

Frugalista - so pleased that Mr. F has a job. Your anxiety is probably a backlash from the weeks of clinging on and coping so admirably, all the time pumping out the adrenalin and the adrenalin won't stop at the moment leaving you feeling worried and anxious. Try to relax, think nice thoughts, so something nice. It needn't cost money, you don't need to spend the money he has not earned yet, a long walk in the sun (when we have some) would be good.
Hope all goes well,

Morning all!
Not posted for ages and ages, life seems to have got in the way! All veg are currently sprouting and looking good, dd2 seems to have taken charge of most of it, which is great! Just need to sort out some more tubs, well empty the old ones in the garden and refill with new soil and then the carrots can be planted direct, and the rocket, poss some more peas as well. Veg bed moving is not coming on very well at all, must nag ds about getting on with it for me! Yes, I could do it, but it was part of the deal that he did it for his pocket money!
Need to do a review of food spending as well, seems to be creeping up again, I know that food is still increasing in price, well the stuff I buy like tinned toms and flour is anyway, biscuits seem cheaper but I don't buy them very often - stops everyone eating so many if they have to make them first! Besides they all like twink's hobnobs best! Think I'll start with making an up to date list of the cupboards and freezers and work from there.
Not sure if anyone has posted this, but Asda has wind up camping lanterns for £5, they are quite small, but handy for emergencies, or for camping obviously - got a couple for the kids, should give enough light to get them to the loo when we're camping!
Oh and Frugalista, congrats on hubby's new job xxGC Oct £387.69/£400, GC Nov £312.58/£400, GC Dec £111.87/£4000 -
It grows wild near rivers. I can't stand it LOL ! I gave up on the kale. I heard too many awful reports of it .
I've never actually tried it - I only got it as it's a winter vegetable so will keep me in greens most of the year. I suspect a lot of the hardy brassicae familyare an acquired taste that some hate, ie, Brussels sprouts...'Never keep up with Joneses. Drag them down to your level. It's cheaper.' Quentin Crisp0 -
I hope to god I never get hungry enough to acquire it AA !
Green food and I do NOT mix..:(0 -
Made a very tasty soup yesterday with the stalks of some overgrown spinach ( used leaves as veg), an onion, 2 oxo cubes, cooked in lots of water for about an hour, blitzed with tablespoon of cream cheese and some grated nutmeg....pleased with myself as usually when I have these 'brilliant' ideas they are not edible.

Meant to say, ran out of DW tablets last night so used about a teaspoon of washing soda and one of bicarb and dishes are fine.....Weight 08 February 86kg0 -

I never liked kale steamed or boiled like I cook other greens but then I tried stir frying it and it tastes quite different - I liked it anyway. I'm going to try adding onions and peppers for a change next time.'Yaze whit yeh hive an ye'll niver wahnt'

In Holland we eat Kale mashed through potatoes.
You boil the kale with the tatties until it's all soft, then mash the whole thing up. Some people will then add bacon bits or stewed beef.
Serve it with sausage and gravy on top.
I quite like it!0 -
We eat it like this too - use Kale instead of cabbage in bubble and squeak or if I make a corned beef hash, I will add kale. We will eat it as a side veg too but not so much.0

Kale is much nicer stir fried. Another tender delicious variety is Cavalo Nero - the Italian kale variety which has the added benefit that in our garden the cabbage white butterflies don't seem to be attracted to it whereas purple sprouting broccoli always gets attacked by them.0
