I never liked kale steamed or boiled like I cook other greens but then I tried stir frying it and it tastes quite different - I liked it anyway. I'm going to try adding onions and peppers for a change next time.

Maybe try it shredded and added to a soup? I make a tomatoe and veg soup, steam the kale and add it at the end, yum!

    Hi,
I've just frozen loads of kale which I grew over the winter, but really, my husband doesn't really like kale, I've found!
I've tried putting a little bit in with mashed potato and minced cooked lamb which I made into things a bit like rissoles, which did go down, but I've got loads more to use up, so any more ideas would be very welcome.
    Thanks.

Actually, that's a good idea. If you put it on your veg patch/tomatoes whatever, it will feed the family anyway.

Can you cut it into ribbons and fry it? People eat fried seaweed

I'm interested to know what we class as low income . Maybe we are just conditioned to want more all the time when we should all be doing money saving as a norm in our lives.

I would class it as "less than national average income" (currently about £25,000 pa I believe?).

    My scale runs =
    - less than national average is low income
    - NMW or not much more than is "peanuts".

So I rate less than £20,000 pa as very low and less than £15,000 as "totally shocking".

There is also a bit of a subjective element to this - in that some parts of the country exacerbate any low income problems one has (ie because they are particularly dear to live in) - tell me about it...as I'm in one of them......

I agree with ceridwen, although until today had never really quantified figures exactly, the thing that shocks me is that two of my friends both live in households earning in excess of £45k and consider themselves to be on low income! Whereas we survive on well less than half of that amount. As with anything these things are all subjective.

I definately earn less than £20k and even less now I have dropped hours to spend time with the kids. I am a single mum of 2 boys and have had to move in with my family as I have been trying to sell my old house for over 2 years now. I can't seem to be able to move on as if I move in with my OH I couldnt work as we wouldnt be entitled to tax credits as he just earns £20k but sees his ds1 very well each month. Withought this I couldnt put the kids in nursery. So its all a bit of a mess for me. Ive never claimed benefits and have always worked but it seems when u try and do something for yourself you are penalised even when the wage is horrific. I just want to fend for myself and show my kids that its not the material things that matter x
Although I get lonely  as a single mother there are always two smiling angels ready to give me the biggest hug in the world. Love you babies :grouphug:
