It is tough NOW. So how are we coping

My idea of perfect peace, quiet and calm, is our old touring van parked up in some beautiful woodland. Rays of warm spring sunshine pouring through the windows and just the sound of birdsong. Does wonders to restore the soul and my sanity. This is where I have been all weekend and we were even treated to the sight of two beautiful deer running right passed our windows. I just love it. Just perfect.............Sealed Pot Challenge 7 Member 022 :staradmin:staradmin:staradmin

Hi everyone
Have been reading this thread for a while and would like to join in if that's ok.
Zoegirlhi, I have also been reading about remoskas they sound great, I wonder if they would equate to the ezycook machines, have you seen them? It sounds like the same principle.
Re redundancies, they have started to hit here, one of the largest manufacturers in our area "Pacific Brands" is closing down as the owners can produce the same garments cheaper in China. The lovely ladies at the factory have been very supportive of me in the past and it is a shame to see it happen. (I design jewelery, and have had several showings with them)
By all accounts it seems that as we have been operating without the benefits of subsidised labour the pundits believe that NZ should be less affected than most of the major Western economies. Personally I'm not so sure, and think that this thread is great in showing ways to economize.0 -
Hi KB ! Re Eliza and the caravan etc -- the people who can adapt are the ones who won't go under or stay under too long. Maybe finding peace & contentment in a slower less frenetic driven lifestyle is a great way to adapt. I found this when I stopped work, and life is so much better now.0

HI Kiwiblue, I was wondering whether there was an equivalent to a remoska and came across something that looked similar in Wilkinson last week. Almost tempted to buy it to try, but am running out of space in the kitchen, with the slow cooker and steamer and bread maker, not to mention the usuual coffee maker, kettle and toaster.
My kids are eating loads of ice cream at the moment and I have hinted to my parents that an ice cream maker might be a welcome present for the kids at Easter instead of eggs. Whether they take the hint or not is a different story. I hinted about stuff near my DH and my birthday last year and we ended up with a ladder, so obviously subtle isnt a strong point for them.0 -
Morning all
mardatha -I have to agree with you. I stopped working just over two years ago -it was a kind of crisis point when several people in our family including DH were really ill and it seemed to be coming at me from every direction (also had my own business to run at this time). and when push came to shove something had to give. I think it has taken me most of the two years to calm down iykwim and even now I have my days when it all seems a bit much. However our little 'escapes' are a great way of getting things back into balance, I seem to be able to just put all the stress to the back of my mind and enjoy the moment for what it is. This must sound terrible but sometimes I really dread going back home because I no sooner walk through the door and I feel that I'm back on the merry-go-round. However, I consider that I'm lucky at least I can find a way to step back from it all sometimes.
We have DS2 coming to stay with us for 4 days this week, he had a nasty accident last week and fell down some steps resulting in a badly injured foot. The silly thing is -he was on his way to see his GP anyway, so instead of going straight to A&E he went to the surgery. They gave him an X-ray form and because he bypassed A&E and went straight to x-ray he has to wait 7-10 for the results:eek: So he has been struggling around for the past week -he wasn't even offered any crutches, knowing there is a every chance that the foot is broken. How ridiculous  What are we coming to........... Sorry rant over now
Have a nice day everyone!Sealed Pot Challenge 7 Member 022 :staradmin:staradmin:staradmin

Elizabunny, I can never understand why hospitals have such a silly system in place, especially as they now send xrays by email. My three year old had an accident last summer and when we took her to A&E they emailed her xrays back to the GP and the A&E doctor. Everything is done instantly so why make people wait so long. Can your son not just attend A&E now and say he cannot live with the pain and ask to be seen?0

my son once rented a farm cottage at the back of beyond that was TOTALLY silent. You could hear and feel the silence press on your ears.
It's like that here where I live - and I love it :smileyhea. In the summer, when the ground is totally dry, cracked & parched, you can actually hear the earth sucking up the rain when it finally falls; or the barley crackling and ripening in the sun. I've even been sitting in the garden and heard the swoosh of a bird's wings as it flys over. If we've been out for the day I can't wait to get home to the peacefulness.
The downside is that when we go away anywhere (holidays, etc) nowhere is ever as quiet and I have real problems coping with the background noises, especially at night - I always spend the first few days of any holiday suffering from sleep deprivation:rotfl:!!
Also, because I suffer with depression, the very stillness of the place can lead you to spend too much time "inside your head" IYKWIM.
When I think of my home I often think of the words in that Robbie Williams song "I want to feel real love for the home that I live in..." and I feel so lucky that I really do:D."Men are generally more careful of the breed(ing) of their horses and dogs than of their children" - William Penn 1644-1718
We live in a time where intelligent people are being silenced so that stupid people won't be offended.0 -
Hi kidcat -DS2 is due back to his GP tomorrow before he comes home, so I think having put up with the pain for 8 days he'll just wait 'till then. However I agree with you that the system is so silly
and if he has to have his foot plastered after all this time it will seem even sillier. I wish we had advised him to go back to A&E last week when it happened because he has been in so much pain with it and feels really stressed about the possibility of having it plastered now because of work etc. Just hoping this all gets sorted tomorrow.

Frugalista I agree totally re depression. Too much of one's own company can be a mixed blessing. And yes I love birds swishing over me - a flight of pigeons leaves me speechless and grinning LOL
I am waiting for the first hillbirds to come any day now, the lapwings plovers and curlews. Magic birds in a magic time0 -
finding peace & contentment in a slower less frenetic driven lifestyle is a great way to adapt
this has happened to me but has taken time. I have always been adaptable but I seem to go more with the earth`s energies these days. I find great joy in simple things like the birdsong outside my window, a cycle ride, seeing the new buds forming, the sun shining in my kitchen
I don`t look at news at 10 any more but listen to one of my lovely new age cd`s instead. I no longer want to know what is happening in the world.0
