The Ave is lovely isnt it -- my all-time fav is Pachelbel canon in D (think its D ) I fall apart to that one :)

I adore this too; as well as the usual classical version youtube has a truly fantastic rock guitar version. There are two performers, either
    JerryC

    or

    Funtwo http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mN_FYoaoGgQ

I hope someone else like it:o

With all this talk of the right music for the right mood - does any of you use 'last.fm' rather than YouTube? I love this: for those new to it, you input the name or an artist (or composer if you want to go classical), and it will start by playing a track of this and then go on to something in the same style and mood and then another and another...... you just leave it to play, and sometimes it comes up with something 'oh, haven't heard that for ages!', or occasionally something really good you have never heard before. It works a bit like those books in the library that say: 'if you like the books of this author, then you will probably also like:........'

The phrase Four Seasons in One Day was certainly coined for today in my wee part of Scotland. Since I got up this morning I've had rain, hail, sleet, snow, sun, wind and now I'm back to snow again;)

Where I sit on the computer in the sitting room is facing the woods to the SW. This morning I can barely see out the window because of the water running down the windows. I've gone to investigate because it looks slightly more than just rain, hail, sleet and snow. Turns out either my guttering is blocked or it's leaking. Hell mend me for letting a passing tradesman replace my guttering at a knock down price:o

I'm intrigued by many of you and your search for peace (and quiet). I hate noise with a passion. My husband thinks I'm too anxious about it but it doesn't have to be loud, I just hate the constantness of it. I'll never understand people who think inflicting their noise on others is ok.

With so many of us cutting back to stay at home more often, socially I mean, I think we may see a rise in domestic unrest with regards noise.

Wow, have been reading this for a good hour or more! Just catching up again on MSE as have been not going online as much over the last few months.

In New Zealand while people have been made redundant etc I have yet to know of one of them. I feel pretty secure in my job (teacher) at the moment. Roll is up as lots of the older students can't find jobs so they stay at school.

Money situation is fine for me to, but as usual am trying to save save save for my house. Should happen next year!! :o Have been saving hard for two years and want to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Jealous of you all with remoskas (spelling?) as I googled them here and no one sells them...*sigh*

We have a blizzard here fletch. I hate noise too -very much. I dont get much noise here, just the A7 in the distance if the wind is in the right direction, but my son once rented a farm cottage at the back of beyond that was TOTALLY silent. You could hear and feel the silence press on your ears. It was quite a dark spooky house and his girlfriend couldnt stand it and they moved into a village :)

Hey Fletch I know what you mean about the weather I am in Scotland too and I have been watching the weather out the window too! Lovely to watch but it is putting me off going out into the garden where I was hoping to get loads of stuff done. Guess I will have to stay in the warmth and face all the housework! Going to have a mammoth cooking and baking evening so that we have lots of tasty things to eat this week, we were tempted by a couple of takeaways this week and I don't want to fall into that trap again!

I have found that ordering my shopping online has saved me a small fortune though as we are no longer picking up bits and pieces that we fancy and don't really need. The baking is going well too and my DD said that I must love her loads to make her such delicious banana loaf, high praise indeed!

Plus since we have started watching the pennies we have had a lot more fun as a family, spending time in the park, making things out of junk, working together in the garden to grow our own food and just spending more time talking.
Taking responsibility one penny at a time!

I too have been a bit tempted this week. Am currently following this conscious eating malary as per Paul McKenna. Weird how it's working for me though, who knew there was a mere fat person under all this :D . Since quitting smoking I've put on a toddler but I've lost a stone in a mere 6 weeks just concentrating on the food.

Anyway, I've a nice pot of carrot and coriander soup on the go, have done rice pudding in the SC and have a pork joint in front of the radiator trying to thaw:p

Mardatha, do you have high winds too? My house feels like it's breathing it's creaking so much. Snow's back too!

It was lovely here this morning, warm sun, blue skies, now its cloudy and chilly and getting darker...rain again I guess.

I like peace and quiet so much I watch the TV with the sound off!!
drives DH mad......goes off to the study to watch telly instead.
I find that I can follow most things with out the sound, but I do have the volume on to listen to the news!
