Barclays Monthly Savings 7.49%

Just been to open a Barclays Monthly Savings account before the fixed rate falls. It was.... odd. I only needed one form of id (driving licence) and she refused the council tax bill I'd also got with me specially. I then said about making the first payment today, and she said 'no, it has to be by standing order'. This makes it different to every other type of 'regular saver' account I've ever had.
They will credit check, but it all seemed a bit lax somehow. Anyone had similar experiences?

I'm fairly certain that I made my first payment over the counter in branch as soon as they'd opened the account and printed off the account number. I only had to show my passport as ID as I already held a Barclaycard.“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0

Well, SO set up for both hubby and I. All part of the plan to recession proof our finances, but I'm not sure I'll be rushing back to Barclays if I need another account!0

anyone apply for one online as an existing customer?

i was expecting it to be immediate?!?!?0 -
I opened online as an existing customer on friday 14th setting up the standing order to take cash from a barclays current account on the 17th. I checked on the 17th and the account had been setup and the money credited to the account. Got a paper statement for the account through the post today.
Hope that helps
