    Hi all

Opened one of these in-branch today. The woman wouldn't open it at first as I don't have a current account with them. I pointed out the wording on the leaflet which said "open to new and existing customers" - she said "that means savings customers - I admit it's worded badly". She said you needed a current account for the standing order to come out of. I didn't have the T&C to hand so asked if I could open a current account there and then, and she said yes. I figured I'd need it to get online banking access anyway.

So she opened the current account and the monthly saver. I didn't have to sign any T&C for the monthly saver (I figured I'd read them when I got home and use the 14-day cancellation period if I wasn't happy). She said I had to set up a standing order from my Barclays current account to fund it. So I set that for the middle of December to be on the safe side re getting money to Barclays etc.

Got home and checked the T&C and I was right, no Barclays account needed and I can fund from my Halifax current account (or whichever external source I want, as long as it's a standing order). So I'll be cancelling the Barclays standing order when I manage to get online access to my current account.

    Question though:

    - Barclays accept Faster Payments and Halifax can send them. I have the sort code and account number for my monthly saver - is it safe to do a Faster Payment tonight or is it possible that my monthly saver account won't be able to receive payments yet as I only opened it today?

  • I opened this account the other day non Barclays customer, set up Standing Order with a different bank, checked online that night and SO was up and running.

Bad luck with the Saturday girl.

Thanks. Just rang up to check and the money's in the account

Very confusing though - got through twice now without registering for telephone banking, and when I asked how to go about doing so, the answer wasn't too easy to understand. Same when I asked about Internet banking! I'll hopefully be able to use both within the next couple of weeks...

The Abbey has a new Fixed Rate Saver Issue 8 paying 5.51% with 1 withdrawal a month or 6% for no withdrawals , down from 6.6% and 7.25% from issue 7. Fund from £20.00 to £250.00 a month. Glad I got issue 7 on Saturday as well as the Barclays one at the old rate.

It's only one withdrawal over the 12mth period, not per month.

I started off the a/c with a £20 s/order. Up turns another £20 designated "Barclays Serv C9 TFR"

    anyone else had this ?
    I only put in £20. Surely the 'extra' £20 is not a 'gift/opening/hello' ??

Can you all please check the interest paid on your 7.75% FR monthly saver with Barclays to ensure you've been paid correctly.

Mine was underpaid today and when I called to find out why I was told the interest rate has dropped yet this is supposed to be fixed rate for 12mths

I have lodged a complaint and need to call them later in the week to find out the outcome.
