Making my own butter! (merged)

Well done! Homemade butter is lovely. I make mine in my kitchen aid, it's much easier than shaking for 20 minutes!
Next time though, don't waste the buttermilk. I squeeze most of it out into a bowl before rinsing the butter, then I use the buttermilk to make scones with, and any left over gets given to the dog for a treat.0 -
Wow I never thought of making butter! I've got some double cream in the fridge and was wondering what to do with it
I'm going to use the electric whisk though, I have no strength in my arms at all, i'm a wimp :rotfl:

Oh and by the way, well done, I would love to have go at this, my Mum just brought me 2 huge tubs of double cream both down to 5p each, unfortunatly one ended up on the kitchen floor (sob!).
The other was used to make a beautiful potato, cheese, ham and mushroom gratin which I costed at 40p and has lasted 2 dinners for me and my hubby.
Would have done the butter with the other but it was not to be.
I will defo try this with my little boy when he is old enough to be amazed by it. Thanks for sharing x0 -

Yes. I use my kitchen aid to make mine with the whisk attachment.0 -
Hi to all
Firstly, yes my arm was killing me and yes I am popular with the boys :rotfl:
Darcyvuqua - The butter came out all soft and squidgy so it was easy to squeeze out all the buttermilk into a tub which I did actually give to my dog and then washed it under running cold water to get the rest out as apparantly this can make it turn rancid.
Skint Student Nurse - Don't know how long it will last but probably at least a week I guess - will monitor and smell it every day :rotfl:
Have heard that you can make it in a Kenwood or similar, think it's just a matter of shaking it so enough air can get into it.
Am still smiling now, can't believe how easy it was!

Don't forget that you can freeze the butter, so if you've made loads cos you've got hold of lots of reduced price cream, just divide it up into usable portions.0

So can you use an electric hand whisk then?
I hope you can as they are less than £4 in Argos.0 -
Amazing. I had no idea you could do this. Thanks for sharing.0
