Humax or Topfield. I have the Topfield and swear by it - others do the same about their Humax.
Humax model is PVR-9300T I think, Topfield is TF5800 or TF5810.0

Humax. I've owned the 9200T since launch (I think it cost £220 back then)and still think it one of my best techy purchases (as does my very technophobic wife). The current model (9300T) improves on a winning recipe. There's love in this world for everyone. Every rascal and son of a gun.

Like Fifer, I've owned the Humax 9200T since launch, but it hasn't been without it's hickups. I'm on my third unit, two went back due to freezing issues. I'd still recommend it somewhat though. Do get the latest model (PVT9300T) as the older one tends to miss the end of quite a few programs when using the simple one-touch-record-guide.

Seen as it is Humax Supporters United in here, this bit of news might sway you based on some reviews I have read:

Humax again. Had one for over 3 years no problems at all. I have 3 and getting the freesat humax very soon0

All the posts above seem to presume that you want it for Freeview.
 is this the case?
If not, and you have freesat then the new Humax freesat PVR is out about now.
I've had a Humax 9200T (freeview) for a long time. I've had very few issues (missed recordings here and there) but a mine was a factory refurb after all.
I highly recommend the more recent Humax 93000

Ive been dithering between a pvr or a hdd recorder for my mum, and would say that reviews tend to be VERY good for the humax 9200, however the newer 9300 is a more compact size, and there have been significant problems with the fan being too noisy.
Take a look at reviews on amazon etc, even some of the 9200's have fan problems (?faulty batch) but most feel the new compact version is not as good or reliable as the 9200.
I think im going to get a sony HDD, as it has an analogue tuner as well as digital, and my mums digital reception is not great, but if I was going to get a humax it would absolutly be the 9200 based on the reviews ive seen and the research ive done.
Humaxdirect even sell a 9200 with 320memory (double the standard 160memory)0
