    Phew.....

we were all worried here
I'll say - I think my heart missed a few beats!

Well, with the grocery cutbacks (I'm single, living on my own, and spend about £50 on food when I'm being good... ;)) and a drop in the entertainment budget, I'd say once we have the APRs and minimum payment info there should be a decent plan of attack to be had here, right folks? :)

    nothing insurmountable here.

HarryStottle, got to go but rest assured the problem is probably 1/10 of what you thought it was.

Ah, forgot about credit card charges too - if any have been applied (place your bets? ;)), that could to be a tidy little sum to reclaim... :)

  • Does anyone know how I can find out exactly how much I owe and to who, do I contact the companies directly or do I contact the banks??

    So many questions!!
  • Hiya Harry

It is all a bit bewildering, I know - especially if you have been through a traumatic time anyway, and then debts piling up on top of that and you, and then you realise that maybe ok, you can start dealing with it after all - and you come here and get all this help after lurching about in the darkness scared and stressed for ages. Trust me, it DOES get better, you CAN do it, so many people have been through the same thing here and can help you.

I don't have a lot to add in a practical sense, only, it is going to require grit and lifestyle changes but you will get lots of support with it here, don't give up. The entertainment, clothes and food will need to be pared right down to start shifting the debts but be cheered, you do not have to be deprived :) do go over to the OS style board for help with cutting those food bills, even if maybe you are not much used to cooking for yourself or thinking about making your own lunches etc do not worry - everyone has to start somewhere !

try and get a good night's rest like the others have said, and tomorrow is another day ;)

Hi! Glad u r feeling a little better. :) Not sure best way to approach those debts with the collection agencies. Possibly contact one of the CCCS guys for advise (there is a thread on sticky at the top of Debt free Wannabe board page) I think that how it works is they talk to you creditors and sort you out with one payment a month, but it's not like a consolidation loan, it's a charity organisation type thing.

Well, i made that clear as mud. I guess I'll just post you link and you can talk to someone who makes sense! :)

    Here is link http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=1231527

hope they can give some advice.
  • Wow - sounds like you have made loads of progress already. Rule number 1) do not phone the companies as they will say anything to get you to pay and will try to get you to pay more than you can afford and can be nasty, bullying people.
I think there is a letter somewhere you can send asking for details of the debt?
Don't forget you can always phone CCCS,National Debtline or pop into your CAB for help and advice.
Are there any details about how they come to these figures at all?
You appear to have quite a lot of spare money to chuck at the debts so that's excellent news.
