Dell Deals or NOT?

Well 2nd round of Dell sale offers are now on. Although when the laptops are concerned, all they had done is removed the 1024MB upgrade and given free delivery (£60) instead. For example for an Inspiron 6000:
1st New years sale: £674.53 inc VAT and Del (1024MB upgrade offer)
2nd New years sale: £614.54 inc VAT + free Del (512MB)
2nd New years sale: £755.54 inc VAT + free Del (1024MB)
So you save £60 but only half the memory. Dell charge £141 for an upgrade to 1024MB, so the 1st sale seemed better value for money especially if you wanted the extra memory. But as said before the sale prices seem higher than that over xmas deals. So you might of been steathly paying for the extra memory in the sale anyhow.0 -
Further to my post here on Page 1, I have to sy that I really can't recommend Dell at all. Their sales and customer service are terrible. They actually managed to ship me an incorrect spec Inspiron 6000 but still charged me for the more expensive version that I wanted. Despite it being their !!!!-up they weren't very interested in sorting it out, so I cancelled the order and refused delivery from UPS. I've been promised a refund but we'll see.

How upgradable are the dell desktops? What is the difference between the models? Also if i wanted bluetooth could this be added later?Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0

Desktops are easily upgradable and the difference between the models are basically looking at hard drive/ screen / chip size and how much memory is in them! Think over what you actually want and see which model best suits.
As for bluetooth, u can buy a dongle for under a tenner which plugs into your USB slot. (very cheap and easy!)0 -

OK Dell PCs can usually be upgraded for PCI cards etc but some moels don't allow video card upgrades other than PCI so best avoided if you play games etc.
Current models such as 3000/3100 do not have a video card slot so limited upgrades.
5000 (5150 etc) series & some 9000 series do have a pci-e 16x slot so can have a video card added. But always get confirmation from Dell before ordering.0 -

A New Laptop at that sort of price is usually garbage as it will run slow as hell.
You are better of looking at second hand laptops on ebay where you can grab some bargains on "As new" used laptops at a fraction of the price.
Or you could try dell outlet will sells refurbished laptops and cancelled orders.0
