I've been hunting for a laptop for a month or so. Was really looking forward to the dell sale starting today but low and behold i'm sure the deals were better yesterday! Couldn't get one from staples as i haven't got one here, anyone with advice?

Hi
Which dell laptop was you after?0 -
Yes, the Dell January sale is a bit of a letdown so far to be honest. Free extra or double memory on some Inspiron's seems to be the only new addition. For all the latest Dell value codes try these sites:
http://www.wizmarkcomputers.co.uk/hotdealsinspiron1300.htm
http://www.dmxcomputers.co.uk/content/blogcategory/15/64/
I ordered a customised Inspiron 1300 on Boxing day and then changed my mind and cancelled it and ordered a customised Inspiron 6000 yesterday instead. I used value code 1-N12606 which was for a free second battery or carrycase, rather than the free rubbish Dell 720 printer but that code is no longer valid. It was also the last of the 1.6Ghz processors so worked out cheaper than any current deal on the 6000 and because I rang up rather than ordering online, I got a further £15 off the Mediterrainean Blue LCD Snap-on Cover. All in mine was £595 and the closest system now (1.7G, 768MB rather than 1.6G, 512MB) is £690.
So, play with the codes, play with all the options (remember to set warranty to lowest level such as 1YR Collect & Return) and then ring up and haggle a bit. Worked for me!He huihuinga taangata he pukenga whakaaro – A meeting of people; a wellspring of ideas (Maori proverb)0 -
My wife is after a new laptop, but after work had 5 of 6 go wrong (6 years ago!), she thinks they are still naff.
Is this the case, I've no experience since?Toyota - 'Always a better way', avoid buying Toyota.0 -
I'm not sure which to go for now? Was after a pentium processor, i thought it was better than the celeron is it? Also at least 512mb ram and a least a 60 gig hard drive. Wanted it also to be wireless. Also i wanted it to beluetooth so i could stick a printer in another room in a cupboard. Can the bluetooth be added on after, as i see that the cheaper dell laptops don't give you the option to add it.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. It is a real minefield isn't it!?
One thing I am certain of is that we will be avoiding a Celeron which is a cut down slower version of the Pentium, the Pentium M is the Mobile chip which keeps cooler and hence has a longer battery life; I think (anyone correct me?) that Centrino is an 'M' with built in wireless?
If going for AMD/Athlon, we're avoiding Sempron (their 'Celeron') and going for Turion (their 'Centrino').
Do you have a desktop?
Our setup has a wireless desktop connected to a printer; an alternative would be to have a wireless card on the printer but they cost £££.
I'm trying to get the wife a reasonably priced (£600 max) laptop that does normal stuff fast; video editing and games are NOT required.
She's currently chasing the country for an all singing and all dancing Sony for £1k (£900k online), but fortunately they are now out of stock! :j
Is your printer already bluetooth?Toyota - 'Always a better way', avoid buying Toyota.0 -
No i would have to get another printer and i don't think my desktop is up to going wireless its about 5 years old hence the reason for upgrading.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0

Does anyone know what Intel® ProWireless 2200 802.11b/g Mini PCI Wireless LAN Card, the 802.11b/g bit means i have seen a higher number does that mean it is better?Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. A 'g' runs faster than a 'b'.
Off memory, a 'b' runs at 11 mbps (bits not bites) and a 'g' 55....
But the communicating parts need to both be 'g' to benefit.
Our router is 'g', one laptop is too so they are fast, mine is only 'b' so I connect slower.
Not noticable until I want to transfer big files, internet is just the same speed.
Edit adds: 'g's connect with 'b's; they just act as 'b's then.

Those dell offers are definately worse than yesterday. There more expensive and no free gift. This website shows you yesterdays offers aswell as todays. http://www.dmxcomputers.co.uk/conte...category/15/64/Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. Hi - was wondering if your heart is set on a Dell you could use the Dell outlet site.
I've just bought one (quite high spec as it is for work) from their outlet site.
New it would have cost £1418 - the outlet was selling it for £901 and since I had problems with delivery they gave me 10% off and upgraded the warranty to 3 years next business day instead of the standard 1 year return to base.0
