Dell Deals or NOT?

I'm not so sure they are that bad, we can get a 1.7 Pentium M with 1Gb memory for £622. ((N01133) Inspiron 1300).
I don't see a 'free' printer as a good thing, they seem to be usually cheapos with expensive cartridges and we have three already (one HP for general use, an HP for photos, and an HP for scanning, photocopying and printing as backup!)

2bdebtfree wrote:Hi - was wondering if your heart is set on a Dell you could use the Dell outlet site.
I've just bought one (quite high spec as it is for work) from their outlet site.
New it would have cost £1418 - the outlet was selling it for £901 and since I had problems with delivery they gave me 10% off and upgraded the warranty to 3 years next business day instead of the standard 1 year return to base.
I've looked there and it didn't seem that cheap, plus they are refurbished.
Certainly no Inspiron 1300's on there?Toyota - 'Always a better way', avoid buying Toyota.0 -
Yeah i've looked at the outlet site and i can't seem to find anything on ther of note. I didn't want to spend more than £500-£600 maybe i'm expecting a bit to much? The free gifts were spare battery or carry case.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. We've gone with a Sony from Comet: http://www.comet.co.uk/comet/html/cache/572_284483.html
Seems quite nifty for £737, hope to get 2% cashback back through HotbargainsUK's cashback site http://www.hotbargainsuk.com/index.php?option=com_smf_registration&task=register&refer=grayme"]Hotbargainsuk.com (my referral).Toyota - 'Always a better way', avoid buying Toyota.0 -

Ditto. Priced up a Centrino laptop over xmas. With the Dell offers at the time worked out to around £600 + free delivery. Dell's January sales have changed the offers and now the same laptop while having double memory also costs more and no free delivery. Some sale that is.0 -
Looked at the Dell offers, nothing even remotely called a 'Sale' going on in there.
Looks like they're all off on holiday and don't want to sell anything !!!0 -
IMHO Dell are a waste of time of late they even mi-sell on there adverts to lure
the unsuspecting punter in, also I have seen a few examples of second hand being sold as new and there customer services leave somewhat to the imagination.
And if a laptop goes wrong you have to send it off and can wait upto 3weeks for a return of your laptop, if they return the same one that is.
I always say to people... Do You really need a laptop? They are a pain to upgrade
or even repair and so overpriced compared to a desktop with the same spec.
But Dell on a whole.. I wouldnt trust them with a box of matches.0 -
IMHO, having used PC's/laptops/portables for over 20 years, I would always build my own PC (I use a Dell laptop provided by my company)
But for basic use by non techie people, I would recommend Dell (or IBM for more business use), laptop wise, I cannot fault Dell, I have used over 5 differrnt laptops over the years with different jobs and personal use, and have never had a problem or been dissapointed with the kit.
You can't please all of the people all of the time, but my years of using Dell have always been good, nothing negative, would trust them with my lighter and matches.0 -
I see that some offers only last until the 4th should we expect something better after that? I don't really need a laptop but would like not to have to sit in a seperate room of the house to use the computer, allthough it does haver some advantages! Not having to watch all the soaps for one.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0
