Are you sure it's a worldwide multivoltage charger?
If so I'll deffo get one!

2050 is actually quite poor for rechargables. I got a set of Energizer 2500 mAh ones last year and they are great.

    You're right.

For AAA batteries, look for 1000 mAh.
For AA batteries, look for 2600 mAh. Currently there are ones being sold at 2800 mAh, but these are not official ratings.

Granted 2050mAh isn't the best, but the worlwide charger is worth more than £10 alone - output of 1.4V @ 3.4A per slot should charge even the latest batteries in under 1 hour (if my maths and understanding of electric is correct)!!!!

As far as I am aware, the Duracell battery chargers are not very good and use a basic time-based mechanism. In other words, if you charge a battery 90% and then restart the charging, the recharger is not smart enough to determine that only a remaining 10% charge is required.

Over-charging of batteries leads to shortened life of batteries. For a reasonable deal on batteries, go for the following brand:

If you search Ebay you'll get some decent packages. It doesn't matter which brand of battery charger you go for so long as they protect from over charging and each battery slot has its own indicator to determine the charge percentage complete.

  • Worth bearing in mind what you're acyually using the batteries for though.

Bear in mind that a rechargeable only stays charged for a finite amount of time, therefore unless you're using them in a particularly heavy use device do you really need more than 2000MaH ?

The 1800MaH batteries I currently use in my Fuji camera are good for approx. 300 pics (50/50 flash on/off)

Quite sure - the charger unit takes 12V DC, there is therefore a transformer with the following

    MODEL CEF90ADPUK

    INPUT: 100-240V~ 50/60Hz 1.2A
    OUTPUT: 12V === 2.5A 30VA

Also included in the pack are instructions for ALMOST every language.

I think it would work "worldwide" then (assuming voltage meets the above).

    hmmm, quite an interesting view.
I think most people would see the Duracell brand and assume what they are getting is a top-notch charger from what is generally recognised as the brand-leader when it comes to batteries - clearly this looks like it may not be the case (and may go some way to explaining why they are so heavily discounted)

Unfortunately, the original poster did not post a link of any kind to the recharger in question. The Duracell rechargers I am aware of are fairly cheap. They recharge fast, but they're not sophisticated devices. Duracell enter this market expecting their users to be using them on very high drain devices and likely to be recharging their batteries in pairs or fours.

However, the recharger in question retails at £44.99 down to £9.99. I have never come across a Duracell Battery Charger costing that much, so maybe the more expensive ones are far more advanced.

If you for example use an MP3 player taking a single AAA battery and you like to charge up one or two of these batteries every night ready for the next day, often the battery is 50% or so full. In these scenarios, get yourself a good charger. If you run a battery down until it is empty, then any charger is okay I guess.

Everything has a balance though. If you can pick up a charger and/or batteries very cheap, multiple sets of cheap batteries with a cheap charger is more economical than an expensive charger with one set of batteries in the long run.

Sorry AMO, no link was posted because as I said in my 2nd post, they do not appear to be available from Boots on-line.

The model ref. is CEF90KTN but since the only links I can find via Gooogle are in Russian, I couldn't see the benefit in posting (*tongue in cheek*)

No probs! ;) There was no need to provide a link. It was just unfortunate later on when the discussion changed direction.

The above model does appear to be not very well known. This implies that Boots imported them and adds weight to the argument that the recharger can be used worldwide.

Also in your original post, you used the term 'microprocessor controlled charger'. This does imply that the device is fairly sophisticated. Alongside the retail price, it may well be an extremely good device.

Either way, if you are getting 4 fairly high capacity batteries and a recharger for under a tenner you can't really go wrong. :j

  • Strangely enough, this charger has a a huge display showing its original price as £29.99 with the free batteries. It's definitely the same one, as I bought one today.
