I forgot to update you all on something. I have ticked off another couple of things from my 100things list. I have sent a message up on a balloon and I am currently reading Anne Frank's Diary. I am writing again and quite suddenly know where I want to go with what I am writing. It is a very definite plan and I look forward to seeing where the characters take me. My major problem at the moment is naming my characters.

I don't know if any of the people who pop into this diary write for fun. If any of you do or have, do you find problems with naming characters? I often find that the names sound made up or forced rather than natural. I want to call my main character 'Cara' in the story I am working on but I have a friend called Cara... I have named other characters after friends but I'm unsure of naming the main character a friend's name. Too hard! Currently I am calling her 'GIRL' knowing that I will go back and change it later.

Anyway, today OH moved in for a fortnight. He has paid for food (We're going halvers, I still need to give my share) and is currently watching DVDs while I work on the laptop on the couch beside him. The main rule we've devised is we both continue with our own lives, no bending too far to accommodate each other. It might sound strange but we're very individual people. If we bend too far we'll break. We're kind of treating this as a trial run to see what it'd be like living together. Nearly 4 years together, we're so individual/independant we've moved slower than many other couples I know. But there is no rush. We don't want to get married (very MSE of us, it'll save a fortune - shame about the lack of presents though!) For us living together would be like marriage to another couple I guess.

I am rambling. I think I'll take my rambling to the blank page and continue to tell GIRLs story.

I hope everyone is managing to smile today.

I'm going to go and put some dinner on and get back to my master piece! (yeah... right...)

ps, how to you get cookie crums out of a laptop keyboard? I've tried the turn upside-down and shoogle method but without much luck.

Hi KT - well done on the writing front. I wouldn't worry too much about names - at the end of the day if your character has told you that she is called Cara then there's not a lot you can do about it, and a chat with your friend to explain that it's not "her" it's just the same name, might be in order. I think it's a bit like naming animals - you can't make a name fit if it's not the right name. People have always asked why we have called our various animals the names we have - the usual response is a shrug and "because that's what he/she's called" - our last dog was called Jazz, by the way, or Miletree Winter Jasmine if we were being posh. Jazz came from the queen album of the same name and the official title came from there......cats tend to have food related names - one was called Muffin which lead to great comedy value leaning out of the window at night shouting "muff!" :rotfl:

Cookie crumbs......I'd stick it on its side and use either a squeezy air-blower, or one of those cans of propelled air, I think - interspersed with the upside down shaking method......

I used to do a lot of writing in my yoof and would often get a picture in my head and the character would then be called after that picture ..if that makes sense:o

I also naughtily based characters on folk i knew and that also helped in the naming:rolleyes:

Books of names would be a good source of info as would googling girl's names and looking at character strength V name..

Also thinking about it i suppose i picked my avatar based on a Blackadder character, i am shrewish ( as in Kate/the character's name) BOB is also an acronym of my forum name and i was called ......bob as a child, i like to build things and i want to be whisked off by Flash heart:rotfl::rotfl:

    Simples....
Blackadder: Am I jumping the gun, Baldrick, or are the words 'I have a cunning plan' marching with ill-deserved confidence in the direction of this conversation?
Still lurking around with a hope of some salvation:cool:

My cat - at my parents house, well my dad's house now I guess - is called Jazz T. People always ask what the 'T' stands for. It's on his vet stuff and everything but it's not really a mystery. The 'T' stands for 'The'. His full name is Jazz The Cat.

    MOOCHES IN

DD has two pals called Cara

One with a 'C' and one with a 'K' can you just name your cara a different spelling from the one you know.

Its a nice name but its pretty widely used - so I don't think you can worry too much - release the inner artist in you

Crumbs on keyboards - I have a grain of Bere barley (we research it) underneath my laptop keyboard - it moves around and often stops me writing letters - makes me laugh :)

Skoots back out again - word count currently increasing - trying to write 750 a day (but mine is NOT for pleasure). Somewhere in the region of 7000 at the mo :)

I think I've mentioned more than once that I hate 2009...

Yesterday my OH's gran was taken into hospital. She's had a major bleed on both sides of her brain. Somehow, and even the doctors don't know how, she has survived. However, it isn't fixable so it's really just a matter of time. She was much improved by the time we left last night, I'm glad about that. She doesn't seem to be in pain.

I am embarrassed though, after everything that has happened I cracked last night. It wasn't really my trauma this time but it was the last straw. I was just so angry. I was punching my OHs hands and then just burst into tears. Two weeks worth...

I thought I was coping really well with everything, being very strong. I was, but only cause I'd put a cork in it. It's time to find a different kind of strength now.

I think it's amusing that my friends and family have their own trained Samaritan. My dad commented on it last night. 'Super Sam' - at the ready to help everyone.

I hope you are all doing ok.
