To what has the rate gone down to?

I was pleasantly surprised how the whole process went with Tesco - think it took about three to four weeks from completing my application online to logging in and seeing my balance.

    Standard rate 4.5% plus Introductory bonus for 12 months 1.50% = 6% Gross/AER (down 0.5%)
  • 7+ weeks from online application now.

I finally got into the account. Attempted to transfer more money into Tesco from Barclays, but it said it requires a signature! So that's, what?.. 2 in the original paper work, plus a cheque, plus the signature verification to get into account....and now another. I phoned them and they pointed out I can use BACS from my Barclays account. But if I want to get money out of Tesco, I need to apply for a card reader.

At which point I told them it was the stupidest account on Earth (I've got 5 internet accounts with non of this nonsense) and will write to close it, complain, and get my cheque back. I'm seriously considering contacting Trading, or at least Advertising Standards.

What's really EVIL about this TESCO account, is that you have no idea when you apply or at any stage what it will entail to complete the registration nor GET YOUR MONEY OUT AGAIN.

And claiming the account is open and giving me 2 weeks to cancel and get my money back when it's been 5 weeks before I could get into the account must...or at least should be illegal.

It's incompetently administered because they've sent me two documents that are factually inaccurate - firstly that the account it opened when it functionally isn't i.e. you can 't even login to it, and secondly, one saying "congratulations for registering with internet banking" when I plainly wasn't as they didn't even have my signature verification.

    My advice: AVOID!
