    Smaller is sometimes better methinx!

I applied for the Tesco account - mine still is not open. Also Cahoot - same thing. I applied (last week) to National Counties BS & I think they may be moving alot faster - I have lost 2 months interest due to not having a functioning savings account. Never again: when Tesco & Cahoot finally get up and running I will v likely close - in fact I am about to check out small financial orgs to source a suitable place. National Counties is for a cash ISA so I still need a good return for a savings account.

And you haven't got to the part yet when you want to set up a payee so you can withdraw funds....
You need an internet banking Card...
And a card reader which you need to order...
Get it on the go, you order it as soon as you can access your account online, it'll take another couple of weeks in the post... and its getting near Christmas post slow down.

Their CS were doing transfers out over the phone, but weren't offering - you have to insist.

or 6 weeks or more to get the internet card after request as in my case ;) still waiting!

  • I called Tesco today and was told the service was temporarily unavailable. So I selected the service to open an account (funny how that's always staffed) and after 15 mins someone answered the phone. The lady was very good (don't envy her working there) and got my account set up online so I can get in - 1.5 months after this process started. So much for instant access an internet banking  So I finally have a receipt which is a relief.

Thanks for warning me about withdrawing my money. Thankfully I don't need access for a while (good job really) but I would like access to my money (not unreasonable really ;)). Thats crazy about the card reader - I ordered one now but haven't got an internet card so not sure how it'll work and the website doesn't seem very helpful. It took a while just to work out how to get a statement - fortunately they credited the money a month ago so it was only sitting in my current account for a week. Not ideal but could have been a lot worse.

Reading all about the delays in getting a card reader, just wondering does a RBS card reader work for the Tesco account.?

Looks like a small calculator, you can stick your Debit card in it and after you enter your PIN, will give you an access code to allow entry (etc) to your account online.

Barclays also use theirs to set up new payments etc. Assume Tescos may do but at this rate I'll never have one to find out!
  • I got my first letter from them today and tried to register online but it kept throwing me back to the home page with the reason that the screen had been unused for longer than 10 minutes.....no it hadn't!

On reading the rest of the comments on this thread I think that I will do as they offer and cancel it in writing withing 14 days.

basically they post out the reader, then the internet card and pin (if you are lucky you will get all 3, if not you will have fun like i have for the last few weeks, got the reader within a couple days of requesting, then the pin for the card, however no card arrived, so i had to call them to chase, and they advised they would have to send a new card and new pin, this time the pin arrived and no card, i am now on my third attempt at getting the pin and card.

One thing i find absolutly ridiculous, there is no way you can get a pin number re-issused as a duplicate, because this time round i had the card, called them the other day to say that i still havent the pin for this card, to be told that they have to issue in pairs,

so once you have your pin, dont ever loose it (or if you can change it, change it to something you can remember) as if you loose the pin they cant issue a reminder, and have to re-order a new card and a new pin

I am the biggest idiot....... well after receiving a notice of rate change today I thought that was a cheek considering they hadn't cleared my original £5k cheque, or sent me my registration code etc. so I decided to try ringing them again. Got through on the 2nd number Anna gave above.

Although the customer service rep couldnt tell me my balance as 'security wasnt set up to discuss details over the phone' with them, she did say to me "why do you think the cheque hasn't cleared yet" - to which I laughed "because its still in my bank account!" (thinking 'you crazy woman you' hehe). At which point it went very quiet - hmm, so I said "are you saying the cheque has cleared then?!" and she replied with "you'd normally get the confirmation of open account when the cheque has cleared but I cant give you any details".

This was very odd, so after going through to Online Support who are sending me out a new registration code, I decided to check all my accounts.

Ahh, that'll be why I'm the biggest idiot............... the £5k I'd originally put in to my Nationwide account, wasn't the account that I ended up sending the cheque from! I then remembered that in a panic after not finding a cheque book, that I transferred another £5k in to my Smile account as I knew I had a cheque book for that (this is the 1st time Ive written a cheque for years!)!

So they had cleared the cheque all along - talk about feel a numpty, esp after moaning on here and stressing that they weren't doing anything! Brain failure at 32, not a good sign :D

Now the wait for the reg code again and then car reader and card etc....
