Re the Santa thing, our DS will be 'indulged' when he is young, as it's not really fair not to. In this I mean that me and DH are Christians so will not bring up the word Santa, but it is unavoidable that others will mention him to DS. As DS grows older he will be taught that Santa is a fairy story, not real, well not as I have ever seen anway lol, and that we give each other presents because we are marking Jesus's birth and celebrating that. Controversial to non-believers maybe, but to me Christmas is about Jesus, celebration of faith and love, small presents, and not parties, over-indulgence or tinsel! Ok sermon over lol, it is interesting to hear how parents deal with the whole 'Santa or not' thing!
    Right back to the soup/mince.
    xx

We wouldn't have Christmas without him (Jesus) at all would we? :D

Phew!!! I've managed, after 3 hours, to catch up on the thread. Now everybody be quiet for the next hour or so while I actually get my backside off this chair and do some flying rather than read about it, or I'll spend the afternoon trying to catch up again!:rotfl:

kaat-lady - very true that the early church built their calendar around the pagan festivals in a deliberate attempt to replace their importance. That's one reason why I have no real problem with non-Christians having a mid-winter celebration, it's a tradition that goes back much further!

Orkney - I never had a problem with Santa - St Nicholas is worth remembering I reckon! In fact, in Canterbury, there is a 'true St Nicholas society', and he always arrives (I think in green robes) on 6th December.

We've always had stockings from Father Christmas, which are always small things, including an apple and an orange in the toe every year without fail. The children's stockings are felt, with a cross stitch band at the top, which I made for them - I think it was a Prima pattern originally. All the other presents are under the tree and from the giver. It's the last thing I do on Christmas Eve, put the presents under the tree, then I put the tree lights on very early on Christmas morning, so the children see it lit up with all the presents first thing when they come down - probably not still in the dark now they're all incredibly grown up 14,16,and 18 (yeah, right!). My favourite sound is the 'Oooh!' very early when a small one finds the stocking at the bottom of the bed - which hasn't happened for a few years, when Father Christmas left a note earlier in the week saying that he was running a bit late, and the stocking wouldn't be there until after 6.30, and downstairs...
Oh yes, each to their own :), I wasn't meaning to sound critical of anyone else, just giving our take on it!

Okay, I was just about to start a HHC when a good friend rang, and I haven't had a chance to talk to her for months... so I will start one right this minute, or nothing is going to get done.

    Hiya
Just a really quick hello to you all and hugs to all my lovely flylady (and man) friends. Not been on at all as DH has finally decided that it's time to sort all the rooms out in this house. It's a miracle!!!

DD now has wardrobe from study in her bedroom that matches her dressing table. She also has the matching unit from the dining room and study so her room is perfect (apart from decorating to be done in January!). She got rid of four charity bags of her stuff without being told to. Her bookshelf is now in the dining room as it matches the other two in there.

DH's [STRIKE]skip[/STRIKE] study has been completely emptied. His carp has filled 37 crates!!! They are not going back in there unless they have a home and he has till Sunday to sort them out. I'm 'helping' :D . The conservatory has been emptied and now has a sofa and rocking chair in. The attic is being emptied and refloored to get a giant playroom/music area.

The only rooms that are habitable are the living room, dining room and the kitchen. Everything is going to have a home for my birthday in December. If it hasn't got a home it's being given to charity!

Hugs to everyone. Hope you're not all too busy! Speak soon xxxx

Afternoon all. It was morning when I started reading....

Not a bad day today, some sunshine. One load of washing out on the line. I've swept up a few leaves but there are many more (and still falling).

I've vacuumed right through downstairs and I did up the stairs and along the landing. My landing floor seems to be bitty every day, I don't know where it all comes from.

Other than that, and my bad mood, nothing much going on.

Glad your LO is home GnB.
Hope you get some news soon lady-liberty
Lovely puppies pink fairy (must not look)
I can't remember what you were in hospital for Serena, but glad everything is OK.
Poor little Sonic, it's so sad when pets die.

    I'm sure I've forgotten someone/something....
