Mixing soda crystals with laundry powder???

absolutely no need for conditioner with the soda and ecover and everything smells nice too and I have no static. I have to dry everything indoors so am a very happy bunny as all my washing turns out so well0

Right then, I've mixed up my first batch. 1kg of posh stuff(well ASDA own make actually with fabric conditioner in) £1.62 with 1kg ASDA smartprice .60p and 1kg washing soda .51p = 3 kg of lovely smelling stuff for the grand total of £2.73 :j
And I've wacked the lot in one of our empty Celebrations tins. First load is in the machine now, at half the recommended dose, will let you know results.
EDITED TO ADD-I've done some maths now and reckon that using half the amount of powder recommended I can get 60 washes out of this 3kg. So even at my mammoth amount of 2 loads per day on average it will still last a month and only cost £0.04p per wash :j
And to think that up until now Ive been using tesco liquid at £2.30 for 20 washes = £0.11p. A saving of nearly 60% I think?WW Start Weight 18/04/12 = 19st 11lbsWeight today = 17st 6.5lbsLoss to date 32.5lbs!!!0 -

Well done on your savings Kiwi and thank you for airing your dirty laundry results in public hehehehe
Does anyone still make luandry gloop? I couldn't tell the difference on dark colours and lite soil but I got out of the habit of making it.Life's a beach! Take your shoes off and feel the sand between your toes.0 -

Also - The verdictis in, ITS GREAT!!!!
My first wash is finished, smells lovely and is clean. There are still a few suds around the door seal despite using half the recommended dose so reckon I could use even less perhaps???WW Start Weight 18/04/12 = 19st 11lbsWeight today = 17st 6.5lbsLoss to date 32.5lbs!!!0 -

Bio contains enzymes that attach themselves to protein/biological stains such as blood, egg, grass and help to disolve them. Bio action works best in tepid water which is then slowly heated. Starting with already hot water will shock the enzymes and weaken the action. Bleach also stops the bio action so I always allow 10 minutes agitation before I chuck in me bleach when doing whites.Life's a beach! Take your shoes off and feel the sand between your toes.0 -

Ummmmmmmmmm, I dont dont but my mum used to make something with all the odd bits of soap we had. She put it in a container with a splash of water and let it all go gloopy.
We used it for soaking socks! Run some under hot water and chuck your dirty socks in, after some soaking put your hands inside socks and rub the soles together. Sounds yucky but got the soles of the socks clean!WW Start Weight 18/04/12 = 19st 11lbsWeight today = 17st 6.5lbsLoss to date 32.5lbs!!!0 -
I used to make the gloop and found the process quite soothing as if I was in my very own laboratory. However since picking up the one good, one economy, and one bag of washing soda tip - I have not made any. That has to be one of the greatest tips ever. Wonder that Martin never mentions it on his programmes!!!!Grocery Challenge £139/240 until 31/01

I'm glad it's working for you too Kiwichick. I also find that my powder drawer dosen't get so gloopy, because of the washing soda and using less of the powder, and that my machine doesn't get that nasty smell now. Even my plummer agreed that it helps.
I've never tried the gloop, but find that this works out to be econo, mical enough for me.0
