Angela, Marg, princesspoppypop and the wife thank you all for replying to my plea for help, youve some great ideas! Ill look into the musical mechanism! In the meantime I think the Number 1 might be as adventerous as ill get.
Is it best to choose some nice backing paper and get a "1" template and cut out andattach to the card with some other embeslishments, eg poppy had gems...?0 -

My trick for the number one card would be to use "word art" in Microsoft Word to create your "1" that way you can custom create the size you want then print it out onto card ( this gives you your template) I then cut on the numbers from either patterned card or backing papers.
Add some flower sequins ( Paper Cellar do some lovely sequins and embellishments in little boxes, craft shops usually have these on a stand)
I also used some stamped flowers and Tilda images which I coloured in using watercolour pencils.
You could do any embellishments tho, a triangle or mini cone shape with a tiny pompom would make a cute birthday hat embellishment.
