Old Style Thread - Friday 14th November

Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Friday 14th November. It is is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

Morning everyone!

Well, my friend tells me that the weather in Montana, America is snow.gif! Here in Devon it's just damp as usual... (though hard to tell in the dark...:rotfl: )

Lame - Treacle seems fine now, thank you very much.
cheapskate - glad to hear the chickenpox has now left the building!
Squiggley hon - hope the cyst is ok and it isn't too painful. crossfingers.gif I had one about two years ago which scared me witless as my mother and gran both had breast cancer. However, it was just a cyst and went away on its own eventually. (the power of positive thought..)
Sammey90 - welcome2.gif! You will love it here
Dazi - hope you got back to sleep hon

Made the hugest fish pie I have ever made on Weds.. 3 of us had it for dinner weds and last night and we have frozen probably another 3 servings. It was so delicious too... Finished up the rest of the trifle at lunch today.

Bad news is that my lodger has discovered my lock n lock full of ginger and coconut versions of twinks hobnobs and they seem to be disappearing at a healthy rate!! :rotfl: My OH will complain if they run out before Saturday, he loves taking half a doz to work with him!

Ran out of cheap hovis bread mixes so used the Hovis granary flour and strong white and the loaf was lovely.. really tasty.

Although I will not get to see my eldest nephew on his birthday I am making him a pinata as I have done for the last two years. He has always loved them and they both seem to enjoy bashing the heck out of them in the garden. Just hope his mum will let him do it at his house. This year I am making a fish..

Hope you all have a great day

    Morning.

Friday, so last day before 4 days off. I am a bit cheesed off at work due to a dispute with another dept. I am right, but I would rather it was resolved... if you know what I mean. These things are slow though. Nothing much planned for this weekend. Today is pay day, so I will have some money again.... for car tax and other things.
Time to get Christmas shopping too.
I think I will have to have steak for tea as I got some reduced a few weeks back and it's sitting in the freezer with my name on it.
OH had supply work all week, so her account has risen above 0 for the first time in a while. So if she can shop she is happy, and not nagging, so all is well there......:D :rotfl: Have a nice day

    Morning all,

Looks wet out there again, still I am off to w**k today, same as n9eav, last day for 4 days :T , I finish at 2.15 as well, :D .

Pasta bolognaise for dinner dd will have just the pasta with sauce, no meat, I asked her what her favourite meal ever was, and she said pasta with sauce  so that is what she is having.

Will shove another wash on tonight.
I have been sending my OH to work all week with rhubarb flapjack, he is taking a bit more in each day as his work mates love it :D , last bit going in today with a few cookies.

Kathy how did you gt on at work ? hope you are not too tired.

    Have good days all x

Went to WI last night, an interesting talk about peru & I came home with a small boquet of flowers as it is my birthday this month.
Yesterday the deputy head asked my lodger if she's stay on another 2 weeks, he was supposed to ask her on Monday!! She's undecided & I can't say I blame her. She's also been offered 2 weeks in a school in Brighton, I'm happy for her to stay longer if she wants to, we'll just have to wait & see. TBH the money would be useful as my son is sorting my car out soon & though he doesn't charge me for labour I still need to buy any parts needed.
Leftover lamb stew for lunch for me today & probably chicken soup & HM bread for tea.
    Have a good day everone.
    Hugs Hester

  • Good Morning All

Hope the lodger decides to stay Hester.

Having a day off today - off to Lakeside to do some more Xmas shopping. Am aiming to get all of the presents for the adults today, just leaving the kids. OH is coming with me mainly to go to Yo Sushi I think. I will be having something else - dont like Sushi! Have a list so hope to be very organised.

OS today, hmmn - will be cooking something for dinner tonight but not sure what. Will also do a load in the washing machine using vinegar as run out of conditioner also only using half the amount of powder as usual.

    Have a good day.

  • Morning all,

another one here who's had a restless night, full of stinking cold & sore throat too :(Dazi, hope you managed to get some sleep in the end.
Hester, that was a nice little surprise to come home with :) What date..?? And fingers crossed the lodger decides to stay as well, much less disruptive than moving all the way down here, lol (and better for you!).
Redruby, thick question but do you just add some stewed rhubarb to the normal flapjack mix? I love both but have never combined them.
Diva, ginger twinks...mmmm... nice. Ooh, and cinnamon! When I feel better I know what I'll be making :) I'll be coming round for fish pie as well; none of my DD's like it so I don't make it very often. Thanks too, I was worrying myself as my aunt was diagnosed with breast cancer 2 months ago, so it doesn't help the imagination... But yes, positive thinking :) If the doc has only dispatched me with antibiotics then there can't be much to worry about. It's not painful either, it just looks it!
N9eav, glad to hear your OH has had some supply work, good for her self-esteem as well as her bank balance. Enjoy your 4 days off (and you RR).

(((((hugs)))))) for al needing or wanting them. Will probably check back in later. Have a good day all.

    Morning!
I finally get to read through the entire thread so far. Hugs to everyone! I lurk here quite alot but love this thread

Up later than usual as OH didn't turn baby monitor on before bed last night so got an unexpected lie in rudely interrupted by the builders for the office downstairs. Just fed little Ruby and off to make her some porridge and pear and toast.

I give her fingers of Annabel Karmels suggestion, organic wholemeal bread - babies aren't allowed salt are they so I'm wondering does anyone else make their own bread for their baby?

Lunch today minted pasta with leftover chicken, peas, red peppers and onion, made last night (I'm being organised... fed up with OH spending £7 upwards a day on lunch on days when there are no leftovers! - he works on Regent St, it's expensive)

Dinner prepared and in fridge for arrival of friends making a pit stop at ours before their honeymoon flight tomorrow. Pumpkin and apple curry - yum (she's a veggie) Maybe chocolate pudding for afters and LOTS of red wine hehehehehe!)

Have a good day all - I'm taking the baby swimming for the second day in a row - really looking forward to it!

    Hi

Didn't get onto Kofte kebabs yesterday, but it will be the next thing I make. Do they freeze OK?

I'm supposed to be visiting my antenatal group in Birmingham today (dd is now 18 years old) if I can muster the energy. Would drive down earlier rather than later to try and miss the traffic, perhaps try and do some Xmas shopping in Solihull this afternoon as I can't go to destination till 5pm.

OS pays off! will retrieve hm bol from the freezer for dh/ds, so they don't have to use the chippy! My hours are down to 6 from 14, so I'm really looking at ways of keeping food costs down,

Stocking filler suggestions for ds aged 15 would really be most welcome. I never know what to get him, DD is in Mexico, so will only have to do one for her if dh ends up visiting, IF he gets the job there.

    Have a good day all.
